MINOT, N.D. – Black Hills State women's soccer dropped its match against the University of Mary 6-1 on Saturday night.
Samantha Turpen scored her first goal of the season as the Yellow Jackets totaled five shots on goal, falling to 0-2 on the season.
Turpen and
Halle Wibbels each tallied two shots on goal to lead the team.
Brianna Tudor also put up a shot on goal while
Lexi Crow and
Alexa Buckley each added a shot.
On defense, goalkeeper
Morgan Wood grabbed four saves on the night.
UMary's offense took the momentum early with a pair of shots and carried it through the half. The Marauders found the net three times, with goals at the 19-minute, 21-minute and 39-minute marks. UMary totaled seven shots and four shots on goal to BHSU's one shot on goal in the period.
Out of the half, UMary scored again at both 51:52 and 57:18 to push its lead to 5-0, but the Yellow Jackets would start to show some pressure down the stretch with shots on goal from Wibbels and Tudor.
At 82:05 Turpen scored, finding the lower-left corner of the net to put the Yellow Jackets on the board at 5-1. BHSU would string together a couple more shots by Buckley and Turpen, but UMary answered with another goal in the closing minutes to push the final score to 6-1.

The Yellow Jackets will see action again on March 5 when they head to Lakewood, Colo. to take on Colorado Christian at 3 p.m.
