Softball Loses Friday Doubleheaders

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Black Hills State softball lost both end of its doubleheader at Adams State Friday afternoon, falling 8-5 and 5-4.

The Yellow Jackets move to 2-10, both overall and in the conference, hitting .301 and slugging .471 as a team this season.

Crystal Amaral tossed 6.1 strong innings of work in game two, allowing four earned and striking out five. At the plate, she went 4-7 with two RBI and a run scored over the two games.

Bell Luebken went 4-7 on the day with a home run and a double, driving in two and scoring three times.

Baileigh Hubbard went 2-4 with an RBI in game one, and Halie Litwin went 1-3 with a walk and two runs scored in game two.

Game One (L, 8-5)
After coming up empty with the bases loaded in the first, BHSU pushed a run across in the third. Litwin got into scoring position with a leadoff double and Amaral drove her in to get on the board. But ASU scored five in their half of the third to extend to a 7-1 lead through three.

The Yellow Jackets got themselves back into the game in the sixth as McKayla Perry hit an RBI single before Luebken doubled and came around to score on a throwing error to make it a 7-5 game.

ASU tacked on one more the rest of the way as BHSU fell 8-5.

Game Two (L, 5-4)
Amaral started game two for the Yellow Jackets and helped herself out early with an RBI single to put them ahead 1-0. BHSU pushed another run across in the inning to take a 2-0 lead through one.

The Grizzlies got one in the second, but BHSU padded its lead with two more in the third on a two-run home run from Luebken. ASU would stay in the game, though, using a three-run fourth to lock the score at 4-4.

Amaral only allowed one hit over the next two innings of work, and the game entered the seventh tied at 4-all.

In the bottom of the seventh, ASU used a double and a pair of singles to win the game 5-4.
