Yellow Jackets Defeated by UCCS, 3-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Black Hills State fell to UC Colorado Springs Thursday afternoon by the score of 3-0.

The Yellow Jackets (0-7, 0-1 RMAC) defense played strong to hold UCCS to three goals on 35 shots and 16 shots on goal as a team.

Dz-Rae Jara was busy between the pipes, totaling 13 saves.

Sheridan Fenner was the lone Yellow Jacket with a shot and a shot on goal with one.

BHSU got off to a slow start on offense in the first 45 minutes of play, not attempting a shot in the opening half. The team's defense, however, was stout.

UCCS rattled off 13 shots and six shots on goal in the first half alone, but none of them found the net as Jara tallied six saves to send both teams into the half tied at 0-0.

The Mountain Lions continued their pressure out of the locker room, racking up three more shots in the first five minutes of the second half, and then scored at the 50-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.

Fenner got a shot off at the 53-minute mark for the Yellow Jackets, but the UCCS goalkeeper was able to corral it for the save. UCCS would go on to score again at the 63 and 70-minute marks to extend its lead and eventually win 3-0.
