BHSU Drops Thursday Tripleheader

Black Hills State softball fell 11-3, 14-5 and 10-2 in Thursday's tripleheader against Colorado Christian at Yellow Jacket Field.

The Yellow Jackets move to 2-17 on the season, both overall and in the RMAC.

Game One (L, 11-3)
Crystal Amaral started games one for BHSU, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out five over four innings of work in game one.

Shayla Tuschen led the offense, going 2-3 with a double and two RBI.

Amaral cruised through the first three innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four. BHSU threatened in the bottom of the third with runners on the corners and two outs, but couldn't push a run across to keep the game at a 0-0 tie.

Colorado Christian broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth, scoring two, but Amaral was able to work out of a bases loaded jam to escape further damage. BHSU got one back in the bottom of the fourth on a Baileigh Hubbard sacrifice fly to right.

CCU followed that with a 7-run fifth to make it a 9-1 game, but the Yellow Jackets kept answering, as Tuschen hit a 2-run double to bring BHSU back to 9-3. However, CCU would go up 11-3 in the sixth and go on to win.

Game Two (L, 14-5)
Offensively, Bell Luebken and Amaral each went 2-3, while Hubbard drove in three with a home run.

Shayla Tuschen also hit one out with a solo shot, finishing 1-2 with an RBI, two runs scored and a walk.

CCU jumped out to an 8-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets got three back with a 3-run home run from Hubbard in the second, driving in Tuschen and Amaral to make it an 8-3 game. Later down 11-3, Tuschen slugged a solo home run out to left to make it 11-4.

Haley drove in another run on an RBI single in the fourth, making it an 11-5 game. CCU would play add-on in the fifth, going on to win 14-5.

Game Three (L, 10-2)
Luebken finished game three going 2-4 with an RBI, while Halie Litwin went 1-2 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk.

Tuschen recorded a hit in all three games, going 1-3 in the final contest of the day.

In the circle, Amaral went back out for game three and totaled seven innings and allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits, and striking out three.

A Luebken RBI single in the third and a Litwin RBI single in the fourth pulled BHSU even at 2-2 through four innings. Meanwhile, Amaral held the Cougars to only two runs over that span to keep the Yellow Jackets within striking distance.

But BHSU would be held scoreless the rest of the way, as CCU scored four in each the fifth and seventh to earn the victory, 10-2.
