Volleyball Falls to CCU in Four Sets

Black Hills State volleyball fell to Colorado Christian Saturday 3 sets to 1.
 
The first set saw the Yellow Jackets get off to a slow start and struggle with hitting errors as the team racked up 12 errors which allowed CCU to get ahead early. The teams would stay evenly matched through the beginning of play before CCU would pull away despite the Yellow Jackets aggressive hitting at the net.
 
Set number two would open with a three-point lead by the Cougars as the momentum would stay with CCU. However, the Yellow Jackets would rally back going on a seven-point run to put BHSU up 9-5 early in the match. CCU would answer with a 7-1 run of there own to set the scene for the end of the match. The two teams would trade points and runs for much of the remaining set before CCU would pull away to take the 25-18 victory over BHSU and get them the 2-0 lead in sets.
 
The Yellow Jackets would not go away easily as they would put together strong defensive moves and offensive attacks in the third set to go up early. However, as gameplay went on the two teams would be evenly matched trading points for much of the set. Late in the set BHSU would find itself up in points looking to ice away the game, however; the Cougars fought hard to keep the game close bringing the game within two before the Yellow Jackets would send Katelyn Sylvester to the line to serve as she would drop an ace to seal the set win 25-23 for BHSU.
 
CCU came out hot in the fourth set going on a 4-1 run to open scoring. The Yellow Jackets would be able to get points in around runs by the Cougars to start out the fourth set before being able to put together a run of their own. BHSU would get three small scoring runs in before CCU would seal the game on a kill by Jacey Johnson at 25-17, Cougars.
 
Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets on offense was Kindra Cerrone who was able to record 12 kills in four sets played with 30 total attacks. Madison Hoopman and Peyton Bodeman each did their part offensively as well recording 7 and 8 kills apiece, respectively. Karly Marx and Katelyn Sylvester were each able to record double digit assists with Marx recording 15 and Sylvester recording 10.
 
Bodeman also got it done at the net with six blacks and no block errors. While Hayden Rhoades kept pace with her season's best performances with 15 digs. While three Yellow Jackets recorded an ace. Those Yellow Jackets are Marx, Sylvester, and Bodeman.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Friday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Rapid City as they face off against the Hardrockers.
