Black Hills State softball dropped it's game against Colorado Mesa 11-3 Sunday at Yellow Jacket Field.

The loss moves the Yellow Jackets to 3-24 on the season, both overall and in the RMAC.

After a clean first inning of work from starting pitcher Crystal Amaral, Gianna Haley put herself in scoring position with a double to centerfield. After a ground out by Perry advanced Haley to third she was able to score on a wild pitch before the Mavericks recorded the last out giving the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead early in the game.

The Yellow Jackets held that lead until the top of the third when the Mavericks bats would start to heat up with two doubles and three runs scored in thetop half of the inning.

The Mavericks would stay hot in the fourth inning as they would bat through the lineup. After bringing home five runners the Yellow Jackets would look to pitcher Shayla Tuschen to get them out of a tight spot. The Mavericks would record seven runs on seven hits in the top of the fourth pulling their lead to 10-1.

In the top of the fifth the Mavericks would tack on one more run before the Yellow Jackets would get their bats going again in the bottom of the fifth. BHSU would go to the bull pen in the bottom of the fifth calling on Bryce Henricksen, Darian Gottfried, Halie Litwin, and Lizzy Johnson to start off the inning. All four would earn themselves a spot on base with a walk dished out to Henricksen, a double by Gottfried, a single by Litwin, and Johnson would reach on a fielder's choice. The single by Halie Litwin would bring home Bryce Henricksen and Gottfried would cross home plate on the fielder's choice. The Mavericks would record a strike out and catch Johnson stealing second to end the inning and the game.
