The 20th Annual Mark Larscheid Memorial Golf Tournament was held July 3, at Spearfish Canyon Golf Club, which serves as a fundraiser to provide a scholarship to a male or female track and field athlete every year at Black Hills State.
"We feel so blessed to gather together with friends and family to celebrate Mark's life and legacy," the Larscheid family said in a statement.
A full field of golfers participated in the four-person scramble event while team prizes were awarded in Men's, Women's and Mixed Divisions. There were pin prizes, a silent auction and a steak tip dinner at the end of the day.
The scholarship is provided using investment earnings from the Mark Larscheid Scholarship endowment to award the scholarship each year. With this year's donation of $7,500, Marks's scholarship endowment will be over $88,500.
This past season, pole vaulter Hannah Hendrick from Sioux Falls, S.D. was the recipient of the Mark Larscheid Scholarship. This season, she was named RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll in both the indoor and outdoor seasons, while also placing third in the pole vault at the indoor conference championships and fourth at the outdoor conference meet.
The tournament is held in honor of Mark Larscheid who lost his life in an automobile accident in August of 2000.
