Black Hills State football begins conference play this weekend as the team faces CSU Pueblo on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. in Pueblo, Colo.

Last Time Out
Black Hills State defeated William Jewell 31-21 Saturday afternoon, improving to 2-0 for the first time since 2016.

Kielar Harpham had himself a three touchdown day, finding the end zone on a punt return and two receptions. He finished the day with four catches for 86 yards, and four punt returns for 108.

Connor Boyd totaled 100 yards on the day, catching three passes, while quarterback Chance Eben completed 11 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. On the ground, Matthew Collier led the way for the second straight week, totaling 84 yards on 14 attempts.

At 4:51 in the fourth with William Jewell driving at the BHSU 12, Ryder Blair picked off an errant pass in the end zone for a big takeaway in the final minutes to essentially freeze the game.

CSU Pueblo
The Thunderwolves are coming off of a 34-14 loss to Grand Valley State. The team has started the 2021 season 0-2, its worst start since also starting the 2016 season 0-2.

Series History
This will be the ninth meeting between the two programs. BHSU is 0-8 against the Pack since first matching up in 2012. Their last meeting was Nov. 9, 2019, which resulted in a 58-0 CSU Pueblo victory.

According to the 10-day weather forecast, the weather on Saturday, September 18 in Pueblo, Colo. projects to be clear with a high of 91 degrees and a low of 48.

Off to a Good Start
With their two wins to open the 2021, season, the Yellow Jackets are off to a 2-0 record for the first time since the 2016 season when they went on to finish 7-4.

First for Breske
Since being hired on as head coach in 2019, Josh Breske had only 2 games under his belt entering the 2021 season. After a wait of nearly two years, Breske earned the first win of his head coaching career on Sept. 2 in a 30-24 victory over Dickinson State.

Career Game for Collier
RB Matthew Collier entered this year with a career-best 19 rushing yards in a game against CSU Pueblo in 2019. He shattered that in the 2021 season opener against Dickinson State, rushing for 125 yards, while adding 40 receiving yards (also a career-best) and scoring the first, and second touchdowns of his career.

Captains
The Green and Gold Captains for the 2021 season are  Jacob Parks, Kielar Harphame, Keyshawn Farmer, Cody Hooker, Clayton Koch, Lathan Stevens, Jarrell Ganaway, Joseph Moraga and Jordan Pace.

Key Returners
Some with the help of the covid year, key returning seniors include WR Kielar Harpham, DL Jarrell Ganaway, OL Joseph Moraga, LB Cody Hooker and K Jacob Parks who holds the school record for longest field goal (53 yards).

Key returning juniors include S Bailey Rosenstrauch, DB Brady Morris, OL Sam Ambrogio and WR Jordan Pace.

Quarterback Chance Eben leads the returning sophomore class along with WR Hasaan Williams and WR Mitch McKibbon, OL Troy Mittelstedter, DL Morgan Tigner and DL Nikolas Arnold.
