Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Yellow Jackets Battle, but Fall to SMSU

Black Hills State women's soccer played it's season opener Friday afternoon, falling to Southwest Minnesota State 1-0.

Goalkeeper Makayla Dannelly totaled four saves between the pipes and Gabbi Nowodworski led the team with five shots and two on goal.

Emma Avery tallied two shots, while Darby Whiteley and Taylor Hernandez each had one.

The Yellow Jackets started the game with three shots in the opening 15 minutes of play, the first from Whiteley, followed by two from Nowodworski. After that, BHSU saw only one shot the rest of the half, which came from Avery at minute 20.

Out of the break, the Yellow Jackets coupled a pair of shots together at minutes 51 and 53, but couldn't find the net. The two teams were quiet over the next 25 minutes of play before SMSU's Alex Lotts scored the game's first goal at the 78th minute to move ahead 1-0.

BHSU showed pressure in the final minutes of the game, capped by a Nowodworski shot that hit the crossbar, but couldn't score as they fell 1-0.
