DENVER, Colo. – Black Hills State men's basketball made history Friday night with an 84-62 win over Metro State, marking the first time in program history that a team has started a season 9-0.
The Yellow Jackets (9-0, 3-0 RMAC) outscored Metro State (4-5, 1-2 RMAC) 45-25 in the second half to seal the win, while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and draining 11 threes in the contest.
Adam Moussa recorded a double-double on the night, leading the team with 27 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals while going 10-of-15 from the field and 6-of-8 from deep.
Joel Scott scored 25, grabbing five boards and making two blocks.
PJ Hayes totaled seven points, four rebounds, a block and a steal.
Matthew Ragsdale finished the night with nine points,
Ryker Cisarik had seven rebounds and

Teams traded buckets to open the game, but Metro State held the edge until a Moussa layup at 13:39 gave BHSU its first lead, 16-15. Back-and-forth play commenced from there, and over the next five minutes the game saw a stretch of eight lead changes, capped by a Scott layup at 8:13 to put the Yellow Jackets up 27-26.
Minutes later, free throws from Ragsdale and Scott, followed by a pull-up jumper from Scott gave BHSU its largest lead of the half with a 33-28 advantage and 6:17 remaining.
Metro State crept back to even the score at 35-35, but Moussa kept BHSU ahead, 37-35, on the team's very next possession and would add another jumper before the end of the half to send the Yellow Jackets into the locker room, leading 39-37.
BHSU extended its lead out of the break as a Ragsdale three at 17:27 put the team ahead 47-41, and a Scott jumper gave the Yellow Jackets their first 10-point lead, 51-41. That led to a 9-0 scoring run that eventually put BHSU ahead 53-41 with 14:35 to play.
The Roadrunners would chip away and get back to within five, 58-53 midway through the second, but back-to-back threes from Moussa and Dukic quickly put the Yellow Jacket lead back at 11 points.
Layups from Hayes and Scott pushed the BHSU lead to 68-55 with 6:47 to play. Then a 14-0 spurt down the stretch, highlighted by a pair of Moussa threes and dunks from Scott and Cisse, pushed the lead to 25 points, 82-57, entering the final minute of play. That put the game out of reach for the Roadrunners before time expired with BHSU in front 84-62.
