Black Hills State softball split Saturday's doubleheader with Metro State, winning game two in walk-off fashion, 6-3 after falling 10-5 in game one.
The Yellow Jackets (8-12, 6-12 RMAC) totaled 22 hits on the day, five for extra bases including a
Tyler Whitlock 3-run home run in game one and a
Bayleigh Hubbard 3-run walk-off homer in game two.
Game One (L, 10-5)
The Yellow Jackets took an early lead in game one after a Whitlock three-run home run in the second inning put BHSU ahead 4-0 BHSU through two.
The Roadrunners got one back in the third to make it 4-1, but in the bottom half of the inning,
Shayla Tuschen plated one more with an RBI groundout to make it 5-1.
A Metro state 8-run fifth inning gave the Roadrunners a 9-5 lead, though, before adding another in the sixth to eventually win 10-5.
Game Two (W, 6-3)
The second game was a pitcher's dual through two until Metro State opened the scoring to go up 2-0 in the top of the third.
BHSU remained scoreless through three innings, but would push one across in the fourth, taking advantage of some Roadrunner mistakes following a Tuschen single to get one back and cut the Roadrunner lead to 2-1.
Then in the fifth, a
Crystal Amaral RBI single drove in
Lizzy Johnson to tie the game at 2-2.
In the circle, Tuschen faced the minimum in the sixth, but a Metro State solo home run in the top of the seventh put them back ahead 3-2 with the Yellow Jackets' final at-bats coming up.
Johnson and
Bell Luebken hit back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the seventh before a Tuschen RBI single would tie the game at 3-3.
Gianna Haley followed that up with a single of her own to put two on with two outs and set the stage for Hubbard who drove a 3-run blast out to left center and walk-off the game as the Yellow Jackets won, 6-3.
