BILLINGS, Mont. – Black Hills State women's soccer held tough defensively Saturday afternoon, but fell to Northern State, 1-0.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2-0) totaled four shots and three on goal, while goalkeeper
Makayla Dannelly grabbed three saves.
Alexa Buckley,
Emma Avery and
Darby Whiteley each put up a shot on goal while
Taylor Hernandez also got a shot off.
Some early action included a Dannelly save in the ninth minute and a Buckley shot on goal in the 11th minute. Those would be the only shots on goal in the opening half, however, as neither team managed a good look the rest of the period.
Out of the break, NSU got on the board with a goal in the 49th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Although the Wolves would put up seven shots throughout the second half, the Yellow Jacket defense was able to limit NSU to one goal.
BHSU put up another shot on goal in the 76th minute as
Emma Avery booted a shot to the right side of the box, but it was grabbed by the NSU goalkeeper. In the closing minutes, the Yellow Jackets were able to pressure with a pair of quick shots from Whiteley and Hernandez, but couldn't find the back of the net as BHSU fell 1-0.
