Volleyball Falls to CSU Pueblo

Pueblo, Colo. – Yellow Jacket volleyball dropped their second RMAC conference matchup against CSU Pueblo 3-0.

Madison Hoopman and Abigail Renner recorded nine kills each, with Hoopman racking up seven digs and Renner a pair of her own. Karly Marx marked down 29 assists in the afternoon's matchup. Haedyn Rhoades led the team in total digs with nine while recording a pair of assists.

Set One (L, 20-25): The Yellow Jackets scored first, taking an early 5-3 lead, with CSU Pueblo not far behind and eventually tying the game at 5-all. The Yellow Jackets maintained scores to avoid surrendering the lead, but after BHSU moved ahead 13-12, the Thunderwolves scored seven in a row to jump to a 19-13 lead of their own. The Yellow Jackets began to trickle back off a CSU Pueblo service error, but the back-and-forth scoring kept the Thunderwolves ahead, with CSU Pueblo closing out set one 25-20.

Set Two: (L, 15-25): The Thunderwolves started set two on a 3-0 run against BHSU and maintained pressure throughout much of the set to take a 17-6 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Kindra Cerrone and Renner led a late scoring effort, as the Yellow Jackets slowly climbed to a 6-point (20-14) deficit. Pueblo, however, recorded a four-score series, closing out the second set shortly after.

Set Three: (L, 18-25): Set number three started 3-3 off back-and-forth scores from both squads. The Thunderwolves notched four in a row to go up 7-3 and continued to stay ahead of the Yellow Jackets, continuously trading scores. CSU Pueblo made their way to a 22-12 lead over the course of the set, but a pair of Pueblo errors and a pair of kills from Marx and Renner gave the Yellow Jackets some momentum to build on. CSU Pueblo was too close to match-point, however, and after a last-ditch effort from a Cerrone kill, the Thunderwolves notched on the last two to take the match against BHSU.

Up next: Yellow Jacket volleyball returns to the Donald E. Young Center for two more next weekend as they take on Chadron State on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday, Sept. 17 matchup against Colorado Mines at 3 p.m.
