Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Falls to Florida Southern to Conclude Play at Ice Block Classic

Fairbanks, Alaska - Yellow Jacket volleyball drops their fourth match in the Ice Block Classic tournament to Florida Southern in three sets.

Kindra Cerrone led the offense tonight with 10 kills, two blocks, an assist, and 12 digs.
Mariah Robinson would lead the defensive effort with two blocks and six kills.
Karly Marx would notch on 23 assists, four digs, and a service ace.

Set One (L, 25-15): Both teams would stay on each other's heels to start the game, with Florida Southern holding a lead of 6-5 until they would get hot offensively, embarking on a 10-score run to expand their lead to 16-5. The Yellow Jackets would try and gain some momentum, slimming the lead to 17-11; however, the Moccasins would play tough and go on another four-score run. BHSU would not be able to catch up at this point, fizzling out at the end of a tough set one loss to FSC.

Set Two (L, 25-20): BHSU would start under as FSC would go on a 6-score run to start the second, taking a 6-1 lead over the Yellow Jackets. BHSU would breathe life back into their game and would climb back to an 8-7 deficit to the Moccasins, eventually fighting back to take a 15-14 lead later in the set. Both teams would go back and forth up to an 18-all tie, but the Moccasins would begin to run away in the latter part of the set, marching with a five-point series to lead 23-18. The Yellow Jackets would start to build momentum to bring the game back to only a three-point deficit, but FSC would keep the Yellow Jackets at bay long enough to finish the set on top.

Set Three (L, 25-17): The Yellow Jackets would come out of the gate hot, going ahead 5-2 to start, but the Moccasins would bring the game to a locked up 7-7 score. FSC would capitalize on forced Yellow Jacket errors to take the lead at 10-7, and the Moccasins would continue to ride the momentum on key net play and offensive errors on the Yellow Jackets. BHSU would make for a late push, but it would be too late, and the Moccasins would hold their ground and take the match in the third.

Up Next: Yellow Jacket volleyball will return to the Donald E. Young Center for the first time in the 2022 season, opening RMAC play against South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
