Jacket Chats Episode 8: John Shanklin

In the latest episode of Jacket Chats, the official podcast of Black Hills State University Athletics, John Shanklin, center for the men's basketball team, sat down with host Bryce Johnson. They compared the program's past two seasons, each resulting in trips to the Division-II Final Four, the East/West Challenge this weekend, and how this year's squad is coming together as a team.

2022-23: Appeared in 27 games and averaged 7.0 minutes per game … finished the season with 42 points, 37 rebounds and eight blocks … put up season-highs with eight points and four made field goals at New Mexico Highlands (1/20) … had a season-best six rebounds and two assists against MSU Billings (11/23).
 
2021-22: Played in 15 games and started one … averaged 1.7 points and 0.9 rebounds over 5.3 minutes per game … scored career-high 11 points and four rebounds while going 5-of-6 from the field against Oklahoma Christian (11/14).
 
2020-21: Appeared in 14 games as a true freshman … averaged 4.7 minutes, 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per game … scored career-high six points against Western Colorado (1/22) … grabbed three rebounds against Colorado Christian (2/14).
 
Before BHSU: Led Bellevue West H.S. to a 24-3 record and a Class A state championship, the largest classification in Nebraska … averaged 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game during his senior season … selected as team captain and named to Omaha's All-Metro team.
