BILLINGS, Mont. – Black Hills State women's soccer fell to Carroll College 1-0 Thursday night to open its two-game set at the
8th Annual Rimrock Classic in Memory of Trevor Wildberger.
The Yellow Jackets (2-1, 0-0 RMAC) totaled three shots in the game, all on goal, compared to CC's five shots on goal.
BHSU's three shots on goal came from three different student-athletes, as
Kayla Truong put one up in the first half, and
Lexi Crow and
Kayla Osegueda each had one in the second.
Makayla Dannelly surrendered just one goal, while hauling in four saves over the full 90 minutes.
The game remained scoreless for the first 30 minutes of play, seeing Dannelly grab a save in each the 13th and 15th minute before CC broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 30th minute.
Dannelly would tally one more save, and on offense, Truong put up a shot on goal, high center of the goal, but it was stopped by the Saints keeper and the Yellow Jackets went into halftime trailing 1-0.
Both defenses continued to battle out of the break, and four CC shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half were all kept out of the net.
Crow got a good look with a shot on goal in the 62nd minute, as did Osegueda in the 71st, but both were corralled in front of the goal to keep the score 1-0 entering the final 20 minutes of play.
The final minutes saw more back-and-forth action, but BHSU wouldn't be able to score, going on to lose 1-0.
