BILLINGS, Mont. – The Black Hills State University women's golf team ended the fall portion of their 2024-25 season on a high note, carding the best single round as a team in program history with a second round score of 320 (+32) at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite hosted by Montana State Billings at Lake Hills Golf Course. Overall, with a score of 661 (+85), the Yellow Jackets notched a sixth place finish in the tournament with their second-best 36-hole score in school history, just eight strokes behind a mark that was set in the 2024 season opener. Leading the BHSU team during the course of the tournament were a pair of individuals within the top-20, as Makaela Swanson and Ava Kalanek recorded finishes of 16^th and a tie for 18^th place respectively with career-best 36-hole scores.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Makaela Swanson held steady as she remained the top golfer among Black Hills State athletes on Tuesday, turning in a 79 (+7) during the second round for a career-best total of 161 (+17) for 16^th place on the player leaderboard. The final round, which was her second sub-80 round of the fall, featured scores of par on 12 holes during the day.
• Ava Kalanek jumped seven spots up the player leaderboard, the most places gained during the round by a Yellow Jacket, to a tie for 18^th place after a season-low score of 79 (+7) in the second round to secure a career-best score of 164 (+20) over the course of 36-holes. During Tuesday's round at the Lake Hills Golf Course, she recorded scores of par on 11 holes and added a birdie on the fifth hole.
• Katie Jorgenson also saw a jump six spots up the players leaderboard as she bounced back with a second round score of 80 (+8) for a 36-hole total of 166 (+22) and a tie for 21^st. During the final round of fall golf she notched scores of par on 12 holes.
• Also making a jump of six spots up the players leaderboard was Olivia McCandless, who carded a second round score of 82 (+10), an eight stroke improvement from the first round for a 36-hole score of 172 (+28). On Tuesday in Billings she collected scores of par on ten holes during the day.
• Rounding out the team lineup for the Yellow Jackets was Leyni Stavola, who moved up one spot for a tie for 33rd on the players leaderboard with a second round score of 89 (+17) and a 36-hole score of 177 (+33). She tallied scores of par on eight holes during the day.
• Following a career-best score of 86 (+14) in the first round, Jessica Folchert returned to the course and carded a second round score of 92 (+20) to secure a 36-hole career-best score of 178 (+34) for a tie for 38^th place on the players leaderboard. During Tuesday's round at the Lake Hills Golf Course she recorded scores of par on six holes.
• Anna Talarico moved up four sports on the players leaderboard on Tuesday, carding a second round score of 87 (+15), which was a ten stroke improvement from round one as she finished her season debut with a 36-hole score of 184 (+40) and a tie for 41^st place. During the final round of golf this fall she collected scores of par on eight holes.
• Also tied for 41^st place on the players leaderboard was Lola Homiston, who posted a score of 93 (+21) on Tuesday to bring her 36-hole score to 184 (+40). She ended the day in Billings with scores of par on four holes during the second round of action.
• Rounding out the Black Hills State golfers was Cami Langley, who posted a second round score of 92 (+20) to bring her 36-hole score to 186 (+42) as she held steady in 43^rd place on the players leaderboard. During Tuesday's round at the Lake Hills Golf Course she notched scores of par on four holes.
