Makayla Dorsey // Outside Hitter/Right Side/Defensive Specialist // 5'9'' // Fort Collins, Colorado // Fossil Ridge HS
Makayla Dorsey will arrive in Spearfish from one of the top high school programs in the state of Colorado as the Fossil Ridge High School team sets their sights on their third consecutive CHSAA Class 5A State Tournament this weekend. She has helped lead the SaberCats to a 21-4 record this season as she has notched a .248 hitting percentage with 112 kills and has added 50 digs and 22 blocks as FRHS completed their second consecutive undefeated season in Front Range Conference action. She enters the state tournament ranking third in Class 5A and 4A in Northern Colorado in hitting percentage and is 16
th in both kills and total blocks. Over the course of her career as a 3-year starter for head coach Natalie Burton, she has hit .228 while tallying 240 kills, 135 digs, 84 blocks, and 11 service aces. On the club circuit Dorsey has been a key contributor to the NORCO Volleyball Club, helping the team to qualify for the 2021, 2022, and 2024 USA Volleyball National Championships, including second place finishes at the Pacific Northwest Qualifier and the Salt Lake City Showdown Qualifier. In 2023 her NORCO team finished within the top-25 percent of the AAU Girls National Volleyball Championships Club Division. Just like on the volleyball court, she has been successful in the classroom, being named First Team Academic All-State in 2022, 2023, and 2024, while also being a part of the National Honors Society and the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). Makayla is the daughter of Matt and Rochelle Dorsey.
Coach Davis' Thoughts: "Makayla comes from a highly successful High School program, Fossil Ridge HS and Club program NORCO and is looking to bring her success to the Hills with her. She is a dynamic pin hitter with a wealth of high-level volleyball experience and success. She has a high volleyball IQ and outstanding ball control which will help her be an effective pin hitter at the collegiate level and in the RMAC. We are very excited to have Makayla join us."
Olive Osmera // Libero/Defensive Specialist // 5'7'' // Torrington, Wyoming // Torrington Hs
Coming from another successful high school program is Olive Osmera, who has helped lead Torrington High School to back-to-back WHSAA Class 3A State Tournaments in 2023 and 2024. She ended her senior season with her second straight Class 3A All-State selection on Tuesday afternoon, a year removed from first earning the recognition in 2023 when she sent down 292 kills while adding 319 digs, 37 assists, and 30 blocks in her junior season. Osmera has been a 3-year starter and a 2-year team captain for the Blazers and head coach Shaylee Mortimore. On the club circuit she plays for the Monument Elite Nebraska Club, who participated in the national tournament in Florida in 2023. Additionally, she has been actively involved in leadership roles academically, serving on the WHSAA Student Athletic Advisory Council as well as on the National Honors Society. Olive is the daughter of Kelly Osmera and Shelly Rutt. She will follow in her mother's footsteps of playing college volleyball as she played at Western Nebraska Community College.
Coach Davis' Thoughts: "We are so excited to be welcoming Olive to the Yellow Jacket family. We are looking forward to transitioning her to a Libero as she enters her time as a Yellow Jacket. Olive has played as a 6 rotation Outside Hitter for the majority of her career and her offensive IQ and her high level of play in the back row will be helpful for her in her new role. Olive is extremely competitive and will look to push our gym forward."
