Yellow Jackets Post 65 Points in Second Half to Down Grizzlies

Matthew Ragsdale posts third 30-point game of the season with a season-best 37 points

ALAMOSA, Colo. – In a game of two halves, it was the Black Hills State men's basketball team (14-12, 12-8 RMAC) who erupted for 65 points in the second half to erase a 15-point halftime deficit to down the Grizzlies of Adams State (8-18, 6-14 RMAC) to end the regular season road slate. Matthew Ragsdale posts a new season-best 37 points for his third 30-point game of the season.

Tied at 13-13 in the first seven minutes of the contest, the Grizzlies went on a 10-0 run to jump out to a 23-13 lead. Black Hills State would pull within five points with eight minutes to play in the first half, but the half of Adams State would continue as they pushed their lead back up to double digits. Adams State would lead by as many as 16 points in the first half with just over a minute to go, but would hold a 15-point, 53-38, lead into the locker room.

A minute into the second half, the Grizzlies posted their largest lead of the game at 17 points, 58-41, but the rest of the second half would be the story of the Yellow Jackets. Heading into the under-16 time out of the second half, the Yellow Jackets opened the half on a 21-10 run. A fastbreak lay-up from Matthew Ragsdale (INFO) would cut the Adams State lead down to just four at 61-57. Black Hills State would go onto tie the contest at 68-68 by the under-12 time out.

The second half scoring outburst continued later into the half as BHSU would open up a lead by as many as nine points. The Grizzlies would continue to fight and claw to defend their home floor, pulling back to within four points with just under eight minutes to play. With three minutes to play, Adams State would pull to just within two points but with a minute left a John Shanklin (Sr., Bellevue, Neb.) dunk would practically seal the deal. Black Hills State would convert at the charity strike down the line, leaving Alamosa with the 103-97 win to erase the halftime deficit.
