WEST HAVEN, Conn. – Prior to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II men's basketball Elite Eight, the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) has announced their 2023-24 All-America teams which saw
Matthew Ragsdale tabbed an Honorable Mention. He becomes just the second BHSU Division II era All-American.
The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) First Team performer and D2CCA All-South Central Region performer adds to his list of accomplishments this season. Ragsdale (Gr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was the lone RMAC men's basketball player to average 20+ points a game this season, while also finishing his collegiate career inside the top-5 in the RMAC in both scoring and 3-pointers made.
The Colorado Springs native was a threat from deep all season long and led the RMAC with his 90 made 3-pointers. The 90 made deep balls also marks a BHSU career-best for Ragsdale, topping his 89 made in 2022-23. He shot the ball behind the arc at a clip of 39.3%. He also proved to be a sure thing at the free throw line for the Yellow Jackets, leading the team with his 83.1% (77-for-92) mark.
Furthermore, Ragsdale was the first player in RMAC history to notch 1,000 career points at two different RMAC institutions. He also notched five 30-point scoring games this year for the Yellow Jackets, including a streak of three-straight games.
Ragsdale ends his collegiate career as a three-time RMAC All-Conference honoree, including a pair of First Team accolades (2021-22 at Western Colorado). Last season, his first at Black Hills State, he garnered Second Team recognition. He was also a two-time D2CCA All-Region performer, doing so at both Western Colorado and Black Hills State.
The Colorado Springs native is just the second Yellow Jacket All-American - of any team (First, Second, Third, Honorable Mention) - in Black Hills State's NCAA Division II era.
Senior guard KJ Jones II of Emmanuel University (Ga.) was named the D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. The entire D2CCA All-America teams and the D2CCA release can be found linked above.
Both the D2CCA All-Region and All-America teams are voted on by members of NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA).
