SPEARFISH, S.D. – It was another successful semester for the Yellow Jackets in the classroom with the Black Hills State University Athletic Department holding a 3.224 grade point average (GPA) for the 2024 spring semester. In total, six BHSU teams posted a GPA of 3.00 or higher this semester.
 
The Yellow Jacket women's cross country team had the highest GPA of the athletic department with a 3.649 team GPA. They were followed by women's golf (3.557) and women's track and field (3.536) to round out the top-three. The BHSU Rodeo team paced the men's sports with a 3.472 GPA.
 
BHSU saw 74 student-athletes post a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring semester, accounting for 20 percent of the athletes on campus. Nearly 70 percent of Yellow Jacket student-athletes had a GPA at 3.0 or above, sitting at just over 250 athletes.
