Yellow Jacket Student-Athletes Continue Academic Success in Fall 2025 Semester

SPEARFISH, S.D. – For the third consecutive semester, the Black Hills State University Athletic Department has reported a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher among their student-athletes, posting a department wide average of 3.352 for the fall 2025 term. Additionally, the fall semester average is the second straight above a 3.35, as the spring 2025 term the Yellow Jackets posted a GPA of 3.392.
 
Supporting 380 student-athletes in total, the department saw 33.4 percent, 127 individuals, achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA. Furthermore, 59.5 percent of BHSU student-athletes, 226 individuals, achieved a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and 76.8 percent of the student-athletes, 292 individuals, achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Among the 14 athletic programs, 13 of the Yellow Jacket squads posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher and nine were above a GPA of 3.5 as a team.
 
Leading the way for the athletic department during the fall semester with a team GPA of 3.801 was softball. Also, among the nine teams to sit above a 3.5 was volleyball (3.775), women's track & field (3.743), men's cross country (3.717), women's cross country (3.654), women's soccer (3.645), women's triathlon (3.642), women's basketball (3.618), and women's rodeo (3.590). Rounding out the remaining four programs above a 3.0 were men's track & field (3.458), women's golf (3.377), men's basketball (3.310), and men's rodeo (3.240).
 
Two programs saw 20 or more student-athletes achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester, as football tallied 22 and women's track & field notched 21. Making it a total of six programs with double digit 4.0 student-athletes, men's track & field added 12 while women's cross country, softball, and women's soccer each had 11. Rounding out the 4.0 GPAs, men's cross country and women's rodeo each had nine, volleyball recorded eight, women's basketball notched seven, men's basketball had three, women's triathlon had two, and women's golf had one. Four teams saw 50.0 or more of their rosters attain a 4.0 GPA, including women's cross country (58.0%), women's track & field (54.0%), softball (50.0%), and volleyball (50.0%).
 
Two teams saw more than 30 individuals attain a 3.5 GPA or better, including football with 38 and women's track & field with 34. An additional two programs reached 20 or more student-athletes to achieve a 3.5 GPA or better, with men's track & field boasting 27 and women's soccer recording 21. Rounding out teams with ten or more individuals included softball with 18, women's rodeo with 16, men's and women's cross country each with 15, volleyball with 13, and women's basketball with 11. The remaining programs saw men's basketball with seven, women's triathlon with six, women's golf with three, and men's rodeo with two. A total of 11 programs saw 50.0 or more of their roster's record a 3.5 GPA or better, including women's track & field (87.0%), softball (82.0%), women's soccer (81.0%), volleyball (81.0%), men's cross country (79.0%), women's cross country (79.0%), women's triathlon (75.0%), women's basketball (73.0%), women's rodeo (64.0%), men's track & field (61.0%), and men's basketball (50.0%).
