COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Black Hills State University Athletic Department secured their second-highest finish in program history in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's (RMAC) annual all-sports standings. The Yellow Jackets, who completed their 14th season in the league, notched a ninth place finish with 525.5 points.
The all-sports competition is determined by awarding points based on each institution's team's finish in conference championship play. Teams must count their points in four conference core sports: football or men's soccer, volleyball, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Then, six additional sports will be counted toward an institution's total, with the top three men's finishes and top three women's finishes by points awarded counted. For teams that award a regular-season title, points are awarded based on a team's finish in the regular season. For sports that do not award a regular-season title, points are awarded based on a team's finish in their respective RMAC Championship.
Highlighting Black Hills State's 2025-26 athletic year was a regular season men's basketball championship, their third as members of the conference. Also adding to the Green & Gold's core sport's point total was a tie for fourth place in women's basketball as they notched their fourth top-4 finish in the league standings in five years, a tie for seventh place in football, and a 13th place finish in volleyball for their highest conference finish since 2022. BHSU totaled 235.5 points through their four core sports in the league.
School's were additionally awarded points based off the highest finish of three men's and three women's sports. On the men's side, Black Hills State earned 123 points based off a ninth place men's cross country finish (best finish since 2020), a ninth place finish in men's outdoor track & field, and a tenth place finish in men's indoor track & field. On the women's side, the Yellow Jackets earned 167 points based off a sixth place finish in women's outdoor track & field (best finish since 2022), a seventh place finish in softball as the team posted back-to-back 20-win seasons overall and in conference play for the first time in program history, and both women's cross country and women's indoor track & field earned ninth place finishes with only one counting towards the women's point total. The women's cross country ninth place team finish was their best since 2021.
