SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University and head men's basketball coach
Ryan Thompson has announced the addition of an exhibition game prior to the start of the 2024-25 season. The Yellow Jackets will be making the trip to eastern South Dakota on October 30 as they will face South Dakota State in what will be the Jackrabbits first game in the newly-renovated First Bank & Trust Arena.
The match-up will be Black Hills State's first contest against an NCAA Division I foe since Thompson took over as the head coach in July of 2018, and it will be the first game against a DI for BHSU as a program since they traveled to Weber State in 2017-18. The Yellow Jackets will once again be searching for their first-ever win against a DI opponent since making the jump to the DII level, playing in their seventh such game since the 2012-13 season.
This will be Black Hills State's first match-up on the hardwood against the in-state foe in more than a decade as BHSU fell by a score of 89-66 in an exhibition contest on November 1, 2012, inside Frost Arena in Brookings. In that contest Tanner Adler set the tone for what would be one of the best individual single-seasons in Yellow Jacket history, dropping 32 points on 12-of-21 shooting from the field and a red-hot 7-of-11 mark from beyond the arc. Meanwhile on the defensive side of the ball, BHSU held eventual NBA Draft Pick, Nate Wolters to just nine points in the match-up. The previously mentioned game is the only exhibition between the two schools, while in countable games SDSU holds an all-time series lead of 8-0.
Tip-off time and ticket information will be announced in the near future for the contest between in-state foes.
