SPEARFISH, S.D.- Wednesday afternoon, the College Triathlon Coaches Association announced their Scholar All-American Teams and Scholar All-American Individuals recognizing student athletes' success in the classroom. Black Hills State was named a Scholar All-American Team, and seven individuals were chosen as Division II Scholar All-American Honorable Mentions, including
Sydney Campbell,
Natalie Moose-Elkin,
Sydney Gasper,
Jadyn Johnson,
Payton Sheehan,
Cassidy Teeslink, and Kiera Wilkinson. Black Hills State finished with a team GPA of 3.91, which was the highest of any female team on campus and second overall in the athletics department.
Campbell was a national qualifier, who had two top-50 finishes, and had a season best time of 1:11:29 at the national championship, where she finished 40
th out of all D2 competitors. She finished with a GPA of 3.71 in her major of business administration and professional writing.
Moose-Elkin had three top 50 finishes this year, and one top-20, she finished the season with a top-100 at nationals (29
th in D2), and a personal best of 1:08:09. She finished with a GPA of 3.748 as an exercise science major.
Gasper had one top 50 finish this season. She finished 119
th at the national championships, which was good enough for 41
st in D2. She had a season best of 1:12:33. Her GPA was 3.764 as an exercise science major.
Johnson finished 13
th at the Prairie State Cup, while finishing top-10 in D2 at the West National Qualifier before finishing her season with a 104
th place finish (32
nd in D2) at the national championships with a time of1:08:58. She had a GPA of 3.975 as a psychology major.
Sheehan finished with a 33
rd place finish at the Southern Hills Triathlon and a 21
st place finish at the Prairie State Cup, before qualifying for nationals and finishing with a season best 1:09:44 and a 107
th place finish good enough for 35
th in D2. She finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA as a physical education major.
Teeslink finished 111
th at nationals and 38
th in D2 after having a season where she finished with a top-20 at the Prairie State Cup and a 34
th place finish at the Southern Hills Triathlon. She completed the semester with a GPA of 3.874 as a corporate communication major.
Wilkinson, the top triathlete for the women's team finished sixth at the Prairie State Cup and recorded a 27
th place finish at the Southern Hills Triathlon, both top of the Yellow Jackets team. She closed the season by finishing just outside the top-21 of D2 at nationals where she was 25
th (92
nd nationally) with a season-best time of 1:07:45. She finished with a 4.0 GPA as a chemistry major.
The CTCA awards the Scholar All-American Team award to any team that finishes with a combined GPA of 3.2 or higher and a Scholar All-American Individual Award is given to those who finished with a 3.5 or higher, qualified for nationals, and finished 21
st or better in their division. If you are named an honorable mention, then you finished with a 3.5 or higher, qualified for Nationals, but did not finish 21
st or better in your division.
