HOW IT HAPPENED
•
Haylee Weathersby got the scoring started for BHSU to take a 2-0 lead on a layup, but then the Yellow Jacket offense stalled. Chadron State went on a 10-1 run to take a 10-3 lead thanks to five baskets from five different players before a
Kalla Bertram jumper cut the lead back to five with 3:49. Chadron State got hot from three late making three straight three pointers , while Bertram and Weathersby each made a layup to keep it close, Chadron State was able to build a 21-12 lead heading into the half. Weathersby and Bertram combined for all 12 of the Yellow Jackets points, while the rest of the team went 0-8 from the field.
• Chadron State scored a layup and a three pointer, which was the only scoring in the first five minutes of the half, the rest of the scoring was all free throws, Black Hills State made five free throws and Chadron made one to bring the score to 27-17 going into halftime. This was the fifth time in the last six games that we did not have a three pointer in a half, and it's the first time this season where we went a whole quarter without a field goal. Chadron went 4-7 from three in the half including 3-3 from Allyson Richards
• Halftime leaders for the Yellow Jackets include seven points from Bertram, four rebounds from
Gracie Haneborg, one assist from Haneborg and Hammerbeck, two steals from Haneborg and
Bradie Schlabs, and one block from Weathersby. The halftime leaders for the Eagles are Richards with nine points, Bati Assefa with five rebounds, three players including Assefa with an assist, Camren Morris, Richards, and Kadyn Comer each have a steal, and Kylie Krise and Morris each have a block.
• The Yellow Jackets and Eagles traded baskets to start the quarter with each team having a layup. BHSU had two layups, while Chadron had a three pointer, a layup, and a free throw to grow their lead to 33-21 with 7:08 remaining in the quarter. But then BHSU found their offense, going on a 16-3 run to take their first lead since it was 2-0 at 38-36 with a Hammerbeck three to be the shot that gave them that lead. Richards of CSU was able to make another three to take the lead back at 39-38 heading into the final frame. Schlabs and Hammerbeck combined for three threes in the third quarter, which were the first threes of the game.
• Hammerbeck made a three point play to give the Yellow Jackets the lead back early in the fourth quarter, but Chadron's Megan Counts hit a three to give them the lead back at 42-41 with 9:13 remaining in the game. After Schlabs made another three-point play to tie it at 44, Chadron State went on a 16-6 run to run away with it thanks to six points from Counts and a layup from Richards. BHSU's offensive momentum completely ran out and Chadron State upsets the Yellow Jackets who dropped their third in a row and fourth in the last five.
