BILLINGS, Mont.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets made it through a cold day in Billings that started with snow on the ground. BHSU posted a 352 (+64) on the first day to sit in fifth place in the tournament with only three shots outside the top four. The Yellow Jackets were led by Katie Jorgenson, but all four golfers shot with five shots of each other.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Katie Jorgenson leads the way for the Yellow Jackets after shooting an 85 (+13) on the cold first day. She currently sits in the top 10 with a 10^th place position. Jorgenson started on eight with a bogey and then made four pars in a row before still shooting a 42 (+6) on the back nine and then finished the round with two straight pars. She only made seven bogeys on the day and had four pars on each nine.
• Savanah Peterson continued her great start to her career. She tied her career-low 88 (+16) today that she shot in her most recent round at the Yellowjacket Fall Invitational to sit in a tie for 17^th in the tournament. Peterson started her round with two straight pars before making five pars in her last ten holes and shooting an impressive 40 (+4) on the front nine with no holes worse than bogey.
• Shelbi Gardner finished just one shot behind Peterson and in a tie for 22^nd with a 89 (+17) on round one. Gardner struggled early going +18 in her first 11 holes before going -1 in her final seven. She made a birdie on hole 17 before finishing her round with six straight pars putting her in the right momentum heading in to tomorrow.
• Makaela Swanson finished fourth on the team and only one shot back of Gardner with a 90 (+18). She sits in a tie for 25^th with her first round score. Like Gardner, Swanson also struggled early going eight over par over her first five holes, before bouncing back going +10 on the last 13. She had five pars and a birdie on her last 13 holes. The birdie was on hole one and she shot a 45 (+9) on each nine.
