BILLINGS, Mont.- The Yellow Jackets finish round one incredibly strong and shoot 335 (+47) to sit in seventh place after round one at the Yellowjacket Fall Invite in Billings, Montana. The Yellow Jackets shot a combined score of +16 over the final eight holes of the tournament and BHSU did not take a single score worse than bogey on the final eight holes of the round.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Makaela Swanson continues her dominance at Lake Hills Country Club. She put up an 81 (+9) to lead the team after day one and sit in the top 15. Swanson, who didn't shoot worse than 82 on 18 last year, looked just as good as last year with a eight pars and a birdie today and only one score worse than a bogey. She started her round +3 through her first seven holes and finished +3 on her last seven holes.
- Shelbi Gardner also posted a fantastic round today putting up an 83 (+11). She currently sits in a tie for 24th place and is second on the team. Gardner started her round +1 thru four holes and then finished her round +3 over her final eight holes which allowed her to tie Swanson on the front nine with a 40 (+4).
- Abbi Beld only sits in third on the team by one stroke after shooting an 84 (+12) on day one. She is now in a tie for 27th, but she had a resilient round. After a birdie on the first hole (hole nine), she shot a 45 (+9) on the back nine, but bounced back on the front half going +4 over her final eight holes to shoot a team-low 39 (+3) on the front nine.
- Katie Jorgenson is in fourth on the team and in 40th in the tourney after shooting a 87 (+15) on day one. After making a double bogey on the first hole, Jorgenson bounced back to go only +3 on the next seven holes and shooting a 43 (+7) on the back nine. She then did not make a score worse than bogey on her final nine holes and made two pars to shoot the round she did.
- Savanah Peterson continues to get lower each round, after shooting a career-low 92 (+20) on day two in Spearfish, she broke 90 for the first time today shooting a 89 (+17) and placing in a tie for 44th place. Peterson made a par on her first hole of the day and then finished her round going only +4 on her final six holes. She will look to continue her great trend tomorrow.
- Leyni Stavola sits in 54th place after a 96 (+24) today in round one. Stavola shot a 46 (+10) on the front nine today after only making one par on the back. She had two pars and a birdie towards the end of her round today giving her some positive momentum heading into round two.
