RAPID CITY, S.D. – Alberto Spotted and
Zena Tapia made it a sweep of the individual champions for the Black Hills State University men's and women's cross country teams as they competed at the Bauer XC Classic, hosted by South Dakota Mines at the Walking Stick Golf Course on Saturday morning. It was the first individual titles of each of their respective careers as Spotted ran to a career-best 8K time as the Yellow Jacket men bested the host Hardrockers in the team race, and Tapia posted a career-best 6K time as BHSU was the lone school with a complete team.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
- Alberto Spotted led the way for the Yellow Jackets on the afternoon, racing to his first career victory with a career-best 8K time of 25:56.5.
- Securing their first career top-5 finishes were freshmen Thomas Oylear and Casey Nauta, who finished third and fifth respectively with times of 26:24.6 and 26:43.3. Nauta's time was a new career-best at the 8K distance.
- Gabe Johnson and Levi Smith rounded out the Black Hills State lineup with top-10 finishes, crossing the line seventh and ninth respectively with times of 26:55.0 and 27:02.3. The times were career-best 8K marks for each runner.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
- Zena Tapia paced the way for the Yellow Jackets, securing her first career victory with a career-best 6K time of 23:39.0.
- Adding a top-5 finish, and the second of her career, was Kadence Baun who ran to a fourth place and career-best 6K time of 24:18.7.
- The trio of Nicole Clark, Alyssa Brandt, and Jacey Wipf, rounded out the Yellow Jacket lineups with sixth, seventh, and eighth place finishes respectively with times of 24:46.8, 25:26.0, and 25:56.5. Both Clark and Wipf ran to career-best 6K times.

Black Hills State is set to compete in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional on Saturday, November 8, at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo, Colorado. The women's 6K race will start at 10 a.m., while the men's 10K race will begin at 11:15 a.m. to conclude the day's action.
