Smith Named Second Team CSC Academic All-American

GREENWOOD, Ind. - The College Sports Communicators announced the 2025-26 CSC Academic All-America teams for the sports of men's cross country/track & field on Tuesday, which included Black Hills State University sophomore distance runner Evan Smith receiving second team honors for his work both on the track and in the classroom. 

Smith, a sophomore from Union, Kentucky, qualified for both the NCAA Division II Indoor & Outdoor Track & Field Championships in his first year as a Yellow Jacket. During the year, he broke three school records in the indoor 400m dash (48.96), indoor 800m run (1:49.89), and the outdoor 800m run (1:48.58). He received First Team All-RMAC recognition in the indoor 800m run with a second place finish at the conference championships and time of 1:51.61, and then went on to earn Second Team All-American honors with a 13th place finish at the national championships with a time of 1:50.20 in the event. In the outdoor 800m run, he earned another First Team All-RMAC honor with a second place finish in the 800m run and a time of 1:48.96, and then another Second Team All-American honor with a 16th place finish and time of 1:50.79 at nationals in the event. He ranked third in the South Central Region and fifth in NCAA Division II in the 800m run during the indoor season with a time of 1:48.48, and was sixth in the South Central Region and 16th in NCAA Division II in the 800m run during the outdoor season with a time of 1:48.38. He is pursuing a degree in exercise science.
