Yellow Jackets Start Last RMAC Weekend of 2025 by Hosting Mountain Lions

SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets (4-9 (1-3 RMAC)) are starting their regularly scheduled RMAC games again with a trip to face #12 MSU Denver (11-3 (3-1 RMAC)) on Friday night and then will face (RV) UCCS on Saturday afternoon in Colorado Springs. BHSU is looking to get a statement win this season after reverse sweeping Chadron this past Saturday.

  • The Yellow Jackets are 2-5 after defeating the Chadron State Eagles by 49 in what is now the largest RMAC margin of victory in program history. The Yellow Jackets held a 51-10 lead at halftime and for the seventh time in seven games, the Jackets won the rebounding battle 50-37 and had 13 offensive rebounds. They also forced 28 turnovers and had 18 steals. Over half of their points came from the paint and they had 40 bench points out of their 83 points. It ended a five-game losing streak.
  • Through the first five games of the season BHSU is averaging 66.3 points, 41.7 rebounds, 13.3 assists, 8.9 steals, and 1.9 blocks per game, while shooting the ball 39.0 percent from the field, 27.8 percent from 3-point range, and 66.0 percent from the free throw line. Their opponents are averaging 57.3 points, 32.9 rebounds, 10.4 assists, 5.7 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game, while shooting the ball 39.4 percent from the field, 27.9 percent from 3-point range, and 68.8 percent from the free throw line.
  • BHSU is ranked top 90 in the country in eight different stats so far this year. They are 21st in rebound margin (8.9), 30th in offensive rebounds per game (15.7), 47th in scoring defense (57.3), 51st in rebounds per game (41.71), 51st in turnovers per game (14.9), 70th in assist/turnover ratio (0.89), 76th in scoring margin (9.0), and 90th in turnover margin (2.0).
  • The Yellow Jackets are a brand-new team. They only have seven returning players and only two saw meaningful minutes last year with only one starter returning in Bradie Schlabs. Last year the Yellow Jackets went 18-11 (13-7 RMAC) and finished fourth in the conference and won a game in the RMAC Tournament. They bring in three transfers and six freshmen, while getting two girls back from injury.
  • The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish sixth in the conference in the RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll with 127 points and one third place vote. They are currently 1-1 in the RMAC.
  • Addie Branscum is a newcomer, who is already making a huge impact for the Yellow Jackets. Branscum, a transfer from Regis, is averaging 12.6 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from behind the arc. Her career-high is now 19 points and 13 rebounds, which she did late in the season versus Colorado Christian. Branscum has now had ten points in six of the seven games this year. She has also reached four rebounds in every game. Branscum had the first double-double of her career against SDM where she had 16 points and ten rebounds. She then had ten points and five rebounds against CSC.
  • Reigning All-RMAC Second Team Bradie Schlabs is the only starter returning this year. She was named to the Preseason All-RMAC Team. She has started the year averaging 9.9 points per game, 3.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists. After becoming the first player in BHSU history to have 300 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists in a season last year, the sophomore has reached ten points in three of the seven games including 23 points in the season opener versus St. Edward’s. She dropped 15 points, six assists, and three steals against South Dakota Mines and then had eight points and four assists against Chadron State in only 20 minutes.
  • Sawyer Stoebner is third on the team in scoring with 9.9 points per game after putting up her second third ten plus point outing against Chadron. She is also second on the team with 5.6 rebounds. She went out and put 15 points on the Cougars and shot 7-7 from the free throw line. This was just after she had her first 20-point game of her career versus Minnesota Crookston. She also had 14 rebounds during the East/West Challenge with a career-high eight versus Sioux Falls. Stoebner had 11 points, five rebounds, and six steals in the dominant win over the Eagles.
  • Emily Cooper is in the midst of a breakout sophomore campaign, the Eau Claire, Wisconsin native is averaging 6.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists this year while shooting 34.0 percent from the field on 17-50 shooting. She is ranked 20th in the country in assists/turnover ratio (2.25), 97th in assists (27), and 64th in assists per game (3.9). Cooper had the best game of her career where she had a career-high 14 points versus Sioux Falls. She shot 5-12 from the field and 3-10 from the three-point line. While also adding three rebounds and three assists. Against the Eagles, Cooper had five points, three rebounds, and a career-high seven assists.
  • Alli Glasscock is making a massive impact as a freshman. She has only been averaging 14.6 minutes per game, but has averaged 6.0 points and 4.3 rebounds. She is shooting 42.5 percent from the file don 17-40 shooting. She nearly had a double-double versus Northern State, where she had 12 points and nine rebounds which were both career-highs. Against CSC, she had eight points, six rebounds and four steals. 
  • Audrey Norville has turned into a solid player for BHSU. She played a lot of minutes last year and has now been thrown into the starting lineup. After not scoring in the first game versus SEU, Norville had a stellar second start, where she had her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Each of those were career highs. She had two points, five rebounds, and two assists versus Chadron State.
  • Head coach Kelly Kruger is in the midst of his first season as Interim Head Coach of the BHSU Yellow Jackets. He is 2-5 in his time with the Green and Gold. He is in his 35th season as a head coach, however, and has a record of 533-451 with programs across all levels of college basketball including Northwestern College, Southwest Minnesota State, Adams State, Ashford University, and Iowa Central Community College.
  • UCCS is 4-4 (1-1 RMAC), but don’t let the record fool you, all four of the Mountain Lions losses have come to teams inside the top 20 in the country. They lost to #3 Texas Woman’s, #19 West Texas A&M,  #4 Fort Hays State, and #14 Colorado Mesa. However, they only lost to FHSU by one point and besides those games, they have a point differential of +91 beating Western New Mexico by 35 and Westminster by 37. They have ten or more steals in each of the last six games and have not turned the ball over more than 20 times this year. They also only have one game with less than 40% field goal percentage.
  • Through the first two games of the season UCCS is averaging 73.6 points, 33.5 rebounds, 10.9 assists, 9.9 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, while shooting the ball 46.2 percent from the field, 31.0 percent from 3-point range, and 66.2 percent from the free throw line. Their opponents are averaging 68.4 points, 37.3 rebounds, 9.6 assists, 6.0 steals, and 3.5 blocks per game, while shooting the ball 41.7 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from 3-point range, and 74.9 percent from the free throw line.
  • The Mountain Lions are top 50 in the country in five categories. They are 14th in field goal percentage (46.2), 32nd in turnovers per game (14.3), 42nd in bench points per game (27.4), 45th in turnover margin (4.63), and 50th in scoring offense (73.6).
  • The Mountain Lions are returning four players that started games for them last year and added one key impact D1 transfer. 
  • UCCS was picked to finish second in the RMAC this year after winning the RMAC tournament last season. They received 181 points, just ten shy of first place behind Mesa. They received six first place votes, four second place votes, and three third place votes. They are currently 1-1 in RMAC play with a loss to Colorado Mesa.
  • Colorado transfer Ayianna Johnson has been a superstar for the Mountain Lions since joining the team. She is averaging 17.4 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals. She is shooting 59-99 for a 59.6 percent field goal percentage, while leads the RMAC and is 12th in the country. She is 20th in the country in field goals with 59 and is third in the RMAC in points per game. She is a one-time RMAC Offensive Player of the Week winner (11/17/25). She scored ten plus points in seven of the eight games and had a 26-point, 12-rebound double-double versus West Texas A&M. She has scored 15 or more in the first six games of the season. She had a round start to the RMAC season, only averaging 10.5 points per game and 5.5 rebounds per game against Mesa and Westminster.
  • All-RMAC First Team honoree Amyah Moore Allen is back for her redshirt senior season and has reached ten points in every game this season but one. She is averaging 15.4 points per game, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. She is shooting 42.3 percent from the field on 47-111. She had her first double-double of the season with a 17-point, 10-rebound performance against Westminster. Her season high is 20 points versus Texas Woman’s.
  • Jayla Jackson-Allen has been a top player off the bench for UCCS. She has played in all eight games and is averaging 11.6 points per game and 1.8 steals per game. She is shooting 53.6 percent from the field and 36.0 percent grom three. She has reached ten points in all but two games with 16 against Western New Mexico. She averaged 13.0 points per game last weekend with 11-16 from the field and 3-6 from three.
  • Head Coach Misty Wilson is entering her third season with UCCS, and 12th season as a NCAA head coach. Wilson spent the first nine seasons at Tarleton State and had a 146-114 record for the Texans and in her three years at UCCS, she has a 46-24 record with a RMAC tournament championship last year. Overall, she has a 192-138 record. 

 
SERIES HISTORY

  • BHSU tied up the series last year at 13-13 after taking both matches last season. They have won eight of the last ten versus the Mountain Lions. 
  • Last year they won the game in Colorado Springs 72-44 and then won the game at home 72-68. Schlabs averaged 14.0 points per game over the two games and five rebounds per game.
