Historic Day from the Yellow Jackets Leads Them to Big Win Over PUCPR in Puerto Rico

BAYAMON, P.R.- The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets used a historic night to destroy the Pioneros 91-33 in the first game of the Puerto Rico Clasico. The Green and Gold set the record for most rebounds in a single game in BHSU's RMAC history (61), most offensive rebounds in a single game in BHSU's RMAC history (29), least fouls in a single game in BHSU's RMAC history (4), and it was the first time since 2019 that the Yellow Jackets scored 90 points in a game (91), and the most assists in a game since 2017 (26). The Yellow Jackets used all of this to set the biggest win margin of the season and the biggest since 2017 (58).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Yellow Jackets started with a 23-0 run to begin the game. This included seven points from Sawyer Stoebner, five from Bradie Schlabs, and six from Audrey Norville. Kiara Collazo hit a jumper to put PUCPR on the board down 23-2. Emily Cooper hit a three to put BHSU up 26-3 heading into the second quarter.
  • Collazo hit a three to put the score at 26-6 before BHSU scored 15 in a row with Cooper hitting two more threes and Norville also hitting one. The Yellow Jackets ended the half on an 8-2 run with two layups from Brinlee McRae to make it 49-10 entering halftime, just two points shy of their largest halftime lead of the season two weeks ago versus Chadron State.
  • Halftime leaders for the Yellow Jackets included McRae, who had 10 points and three steals. Emily Cooper and Audrey Norville each had nine points in the first half with each having two steals and combining for 4-5 from deep. Collazo had five points for the Pioneros in the first half.
  • The Green and Gold started the second half on a 14-6 run to make it 63-16 in the second half. The two teams trades some baskets before BHSU went on an 8-0 run between Serlen and Maddie Geiver to make it 72-21. PUCPR responded with a 5-0 run to end the third quarter at 72-26.
  • The fourth period started out with Taylor Ray getting her first career points as a Yellow Jacket. After that five of the next nine points belonged to the Pioneros who made the score 78-31 before BHSU finished on a 13-2 run with Brinlee getting a three and a layup, Ray hitting another basket, and Serlen scoring three layups to end the game at 91-33.
