HOW IT HAPPENED
- After Chadron State's Blessing Adesipe sank a pair of free throws just 49 seconds in to start the scoring, Black Hills State's Jack Haggett was quick to answer with a 2-handed dunk the ensuing possession. The Yellow Jackets held an 8-6 advantage with just under 16 minutes to play in the opening half as Cam Lowe drove the baseline from the left-corner for a reverse layup, sparking an 8-0 run as BHSU built their first double digit lead of the contest. Two minutes after the layup, Tristan Hurdle knocked down back-to-back right-corner 3-pointers off assists from Willie Patterson III to make it a 16-6 game with 13:24 on the clock.
- With a pair of technical free throws from Mack Keighran and a driving right-handed layup by Luka Djurovic, the Eagles cut the lead down to six points (16-10) with 12:39 to play and they kept the margin within single digits until a third Hurdle 3-pointer, this time from the top of the key, pushed the lead to 26-16 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half.
- The Green & Gold led by as many as 12 points in the opening half on four different occasions, last being a 39-27 advantage as Myles Johnson found Blake Volmer in the left-corner for his first triple of the night with 2:06 left on the clock. After the Volmer 3-pointer, Chadron State answered with an 11-2 scoring run that was capped with a baseline lob to Isaiah Randolph who put down a right-handed dunk at the buzzer to cut the BHSU lead to 41-38 at the halftime break.
- Beginning with a turnaround jumper in the paint by Jaeton Hackley, the Yellow Jackets went on to score the first seven points of the second half, capped by a right-wing 3-pointer by Jackson Seale who hit the shot off the kick-out pass from Lowe to make it 48-38 with 18:44 to play.
- After the Eagles managed to keep within striking distance in the early stages of the second half, the Yellow Jackets took full control of the game with a 13-0 scoring run that was sparked by a Volmer 3-pointer from the right-corner off an assist from Hurdle with 13:44 on the clock. The run spanned three minutes as Hurdle then made it a 23 point advantage (71-48) with a driving right-handed layup with 10:44 remaining.
- A 17-6 run by Black Hills State allowed the Green & Gold to secure their largest lead of the game at 30 points (88-58) as Haggett knocked down a pair of free throws with 5:36 to play. During the run that spanned just over four minutes, Lowe scored 11 of the 17 points as he was 4-of-4 from the field during the stretch, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 from the charity stipe.
- After leading 90-60 as Johnnie Reed scored on a right-handed layup from a Hackley assist from halfcourt with 5:04 to play, Chadron State scored the final seven points of the contest, capping the game with an and-one by Alexi Anderson with 52.4 seconds on the clock to make it 90-67.
