Anderson Breaks School Record at UND Tune-Up while Yellow Jackets Post Seven Event Wins at “Golden Eagle” Last Chance

CHADRON, Neb. – In the final tune-up of the indoor season prior to the conference championships, the Black Hills State University men's and women's track & field teams posted seven event wins at the "Golden Eagle" Last Chance and Braden Anderson broke his own school record in the 800m run at the UND Tune-Up this past weekend. In addition to Anderson's school record, four other Yellow Jackets improved upon their current marks or moved into the program's all-time top-10 performance list, including Jayden Curtis in the 60m hurdles, Bridger Anderson in the long jump, Ryan Baker in the weight throw, and Isabell Higgins in the weight throw.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT UND TUNE-UP
  • After coming within a tenth of a second on multiple occasions, the 800m run school record finally fell on Friday afternoon as Braden Anderson clocked an NCAA DII provisional time of 1:50.93 to finish second place in the event and best five NCAA DI athletes in the process.
HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT "GOLDEN EAGLE" LAST CHANCE
  • After clocking a time of 7.11 for fifth place in the preliminaries of the 60m dash, Mason Sartain improved to third place with a season-best time of 7.09 in the finals. Also recording top-10 finishes in the event were Conor McGraw with an eighth place time of 7.23 and Isaac Job with a tenth place and career-best time of 7.35.
  • Jace Johnson once again led the way in the 200m dash, posting a time of 23.20 for seventh place.
  • Aiden O'Leary recorded an event win in the 400m dash, notching a time of 50.58. Also in the event the Yellow Jackets saw the pair of Flynn Johnston and Ashley Williams finish within the top-10 with a third place time of 51.04 and a ninth place time of 58.39 respectively.
  • BHSU went 1-2-3 in the 800m run as Caden Strasser led the way by securing the win with a time of 1:58.88, while Jonah Rigg was second with a time of 1:59.51, and Drew Lehman was third with a time of 2:01.65.
  • Black Hills State recorded another event win in the mile as Jaxon Straus ran to a time of 4:24.67, while others in the top-10 for the Green & Gold were Marcos Valerio in fourth place with a time of 4:30.78 and Addison Red Fox in ninth place with a time of 4:50.57.
  • The Yellow Jackets took five of the top-6 placings in the 3,000m run, led by Landrum Wiley who ran to a second place finish with a time of 8:59.72. Rounding out the five runners for BHSU were David Standish in third with a career-best time of 9:02.10, Turner Christians in fourth with a time of 9:08.27, Valerio in fifth place with a time of 9:20.33, and Wyatt Ostler in sixth place with a time of 9:31.20.
  • The pair of Jayden Curtis and Bridger Anderson recorded a third place and sixth place finish respectively in the 60m hurdles with times of 8.68 and 9.24. Curtis's time was a new career-best and ranks tenth-best in school history.
  • The lone Yellow Jacket in the high jump was McGraw, who cleared a career-best height of 1.78m (5' 10") for second place.
  • BHSU took two of the top-3 placings in the pole vault as McKalester Johns and Shane Karajanis finished second and third respectively with jumps of 4.45m (14' 7.25") and 4.30m (14' 1.25").
  • The Green & Gold took three of the top-4 placings in the long jump as well, led by Anderson who notched a career-best mark of 6.79m (22' 3.5") for second place in the event and ties the tenth-best mark in BHSU history. Rounding out the Yellow Jacket trio was Javin Walker who was third with a mark of 6.34m (20' 9.75") and Seth Wilson who was fourth with a mark of 6.33m (20' 9.25").
  • Led by Curtis with a career-best mark of 12.63m (41' 5.25") for a third place finish, Black Hills State saw three athletes finish within the top-6 of the triple jump. Rounding out the trio was Casen Wilson with a fifth place finish and mark of 12.22m (40' 1.25") and Jude Guevara who was sixth place with a mark of 11.79m (38' 8.25").
  • The pair of Matthew LoFaso and McGraw each finished within the top-10 of the shot put competition, posting throws of 14.31m (46' 11.5") and 12.48m (40' 11.5") respectively for fourth and ninth place in the event.
  • The Yellow Jackets saw four athletes finish within the top-10 of the weight throw, led by Ryan Baker who recorded a fourth place finish with a career-best mark of 16.94m (55' 7") to move into ninth all-time on the school's performance list. Also recording top-10 finishes in the event for BHSU was Anthony Rosenstrauch who was sixth with a throw of 15.08m (49' 5.75"), Canyon Burkard who was ninth with a career-best throw of 14.49m (47' 6.5"), and Logan Class who was tenth with a throw of 14.28m (46' 10.25").
HOW IT HAPPENED – WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD AT "GOLDEN EAGLE" LAST CHANCE
  • Saraya Afrank was the lone Yellow Jacket in the 400m dash, running to a time of 1:00.50 to win the event.
  • Katelyn Krieger led the way for BHSU in a 1-2-3 finish in the 800m run, clocking a time of 2:21.10 to win the event. Finishing right behind her were Norah Entzi with a second place finish and time of 2:22.39, while Brooklyn Brooks was third with a career-best time of 2:23.69.
  • Black Hills State took three of the top-5 placings in the mile, led by a third place finish by Emma Smith who posted a time of 5:44.18 in her debut in the event. Rounding out the trio of Yellow Jackets in the event was Kadence Baun in fourth place with a career-best time of 5:56.74 and Payton Sheehan in fifth place with a time of 6:06.44 in her collegiate debut.
  • Winning the 3,000m run was Abigail Robberson with a career-best time of 11:00.97, while Gracie Craig was third place in the event with a time of 11:23.15.
  • BHSU took two of the top-4 placings in the 60m hurdles, led by Alivia Weathers who ran to a career-best time of 9.53 for second place. The other Yellow Jacket competing in the event was Lauryn Bennett who posted a career-best time of 10.40 for fourth place.
  • Highlighted by an event win by Brekkan Lockhart with a vault of 3.20m (10' 6"), the Yellow Jackets took four of the top-5 placings in the pole vault. Other BHSU athletes in the event were Gretchen Adamski who was second as she cleared a career-best mark of 3.05m (10' 0"), Hope Bryant who was fourth as she cleared a career-best mark of 2.75m (9' 0.25"), and Lauryn Bennett who was fifth as she cleared 2.60m (8' 6.25").
  • The lone Black Hills State athlete competing in the long jump and the triple jump was Sophie Louderback. She recorded a win in the long jump with a mark of 5.17m (16' 11.5") and posted a third place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 10.58m (34' 8.5").
  • BHSU saw four athletes finish within the top-10 of the shot put competition, led by Isabell Higgins with a fourth place finish and throw of 11.76m (38' 7"). Others competing were Cassidy Goddard who was fifth place with a throw of 11.17m (36' 7.75"), KyleeJo Symonds who was sixth place with a career-best throw of 11.10m (36' 5"), and Elissa Kipp who was tenth place with a throw of 9.77m (32' 0.75").
  • Higgins recorded a win in the weight throw competition as she posted a career-best mark of 16.42m (53' 10.5"), entering the school's all-time performance list with the ninth-best mark in program history. Rounding out the quartet of Yellow Jackets in the top-10 was Goddard who was fourth place with a career-best throw of 13.40m (43' 11.75"), Kipp who was seventh place with a throw of 12.94m (42' 5.5"), and Symonds who was eighth place with a throw of 12.27m (40' 3.25").
