Yellow Jackets Defense Stifles ThunderWolves in a Dominant Home Win

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State Yellow Jackets defense shut down Alisha Little and the CSU Pueblo ThunderWolves in a dominant 62-48 win in A2 Arena. Bradie Schlabs was able to reach her career high in points with 24, while Bertram collected her third career double-double with a 17-point, ten-rebound performance. Black Hills State will move above CSU Pueblo in the conference standings with the Yellow Jackets now sitting at 13-7 (9-4 RMAC) and the ThunderWolves sitting at 13-8 (8-5 RMAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
•    Black Hills State began the game on a 6-0 run through the first 4:41 of the game. Haylee Weathersby started it off with a mid-range jumper, then two free throws from Bertram, and a jumper from Schlabs gave them the early lead. Landri Hudson got CSU Pueblo on the board with a three pointer, before Morgan Hammerbeck immediately answered with a three of her own. Schlabs made a jumper to get the score to 11-3 with 3:17 remaining before the ThunderWolves went on a 7-0 run to end the quarter that included two threes from Brynae Stewart and Tosinae Bonds to head into the second down 11-10. The Yellow Jackets held the third leading scorer in the country, Alisha Little, to zero points. 
•    Haylee Weathersby made a free throw to bring the lead back to two, before Tomia Johnson made a driving layup to tie the game for the first time since it was 0-0. Stewart made a free throw to give the ThunderWolves their first lead at 13-12, before BHSU went on an 8-0 run thanks to two jumpers from Schlabs, two free throws from Hammerbeck, and a deep two from Kalla Bertram. That brought the lead to 20-13 with 6:02 remaining in the half. Johnson and Bonds each hit threes to bring the score to 20-19, before Hammerbeck made a two to give the Yellow Jackets a slim 22-19 lead. Little made her first bucket of the night on a driving layup to bring the score to 22-21 with 1:07 remaining. In the final minute, BHSU would go on a 5-0 run with a three-point play from Bertram and a Schlabs jumper to take a 27-22 lead in the half. 
•    Black Hills State halftime leaders include ten points from Schlabs, who also leads the team with three steals. Weathersby has three points, six rebounds, and a block. Bertram and Hammerbeck each have seven points, while Gracie Haneborg is tied for the rebound lead with six. CSU Pueblo is led by Bonds, who has six points. Johnson leads the team in assists with two, while also putting up five points, and while Little isn't scoring, she already has seven rebounds and two blocks. 
•     Little got the ThunderWolves going with a two to start the half and cut the lead to 27-23 before a Weathersby answer and a Kalla Bertram three moved the lead to nine at 32-23 with 8:16 left in the third. Hudson made a three-pointer to cut the lead to 34-28 before Bertram answered with her second three of the half to move it back to 37-28. BHSU's Schlanbs and CSUP's Shamahra Henderson each hit layups to keep the lead at nine before Schlabs went on her own 5-0 run to give BHSU its biggest lead at 44-30. Little and Bertram traded layups, before CSUP went on a 4-0 run to end the quarter and cut the Jackets lead to ten at 46-36. 
•    Schlabs and Little traded twos to keep the lead at ten, 48-38. BHSU went on an 8-0 run with a three pointer from Hammerbeck and Schlabs, which gave the Freshman point guard her career high 22 points, she would make another jumper to give her 24 and bring the lead to 56-38. Each team started matching each other shot for shot to bring the score to 60-43 with 3:55 remaining. Weathersby made the final layup to put BHSU up 62-43, before BHSU removed their starters and took home the win 62-48. CSU Pueblo's Little made two free throws midway through the quarter to give her the all-time scoring record in ThunderWolves history.
