Lowe, Speckman Receive CSC Academic All-District® Recognition

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2025 Academic All-District® recipients for the sport of men's basketball on Tuesday morning, recognizing the student-athletes' success on the court and in the classroom. Representing Black Hills State University are redshirt freshman guard Cam Lowe and sophomore forward Joel Speckman, who are each receiving the accolade for the first time in their careers. In addition, Lowe has been selected to advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 15, 2025.

Lowe, who has received recognition as RMAC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-RMAC, and D2CCA Second Team All-Region this season, emerged as one of the top scorers and rebounders in the RMAC, averaging 15.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He added 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game while shooting the ball 49.5 percent from the field, 39.5 percent from 3-point range, and 83.7 percent from the free throw line. Among RMAC leaders, he leads the league in defensive rebounds per game (6.90) and total field goals made (165), is third in points per game, is fourth in rebounds per game, total 3-pointers made (64), is fifth in 3-pointers per game (2.13) and field goal percentage and is sixth in free throw percentage. He scored in double figures 24 times on the year, including pouring in a career-high of 28 points in a thrilling overtime win at UCCS, shooting 7-of-9 from the field, 6-of-7 from 3-point range, and 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. The 28-point outing against UCCS was one of ten games of 20 or more points this year, which also saw him post four consecutive to end the year. Additionally, as one of the conference's most active rebounders, he's secured eight or more rebounds in 18 contests this season, including ten or more in nine games which was highlighted by a career-high of 14 against Augustana. He secured a team-high eight double-doubles this season, tying for the fifth most among teams in the South Central region. Against Adams State on the final weekend of the regular season, he scored 23 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field and 7-of-7 from 3-point range, matching the BHSU and RMAC record for 3-point percentage as he was the first Yellow Jacket to ever be perfect from beyond the arc on seven attempts and the sixth in conference history. Throughout the season he connected on multiple 3-pointers on 18 occasions, including six consecutive to end the season. In the classroom Lowe holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major.

Speckman, who also received First Team Academic All-RMAC honors earlier this month, ranks fourth in the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.22). He added 7.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting the ball 57.7 percent from the field. He scored in double figures in seven games total this year and secured five or more rebounds in 18 games this season, including reaching ten or more three times. His 10-point, 10-rebound performance against Western Colorado was his lone double-double of the season and just the second of his career. He posted multiple blocked shots in six games, four of which he recorded a season-high of three in the contest, and most recently did so against Adams State in which he posted three blocked shots within the first three minutes of the game in the final weekend of the regular season. In the classroom Speckman holds a 3.78 cumulative GPA as an exercise science major and is pursuing a minor in entrepreneurial studies.

School's athletic communication staffs are allowed to nominate up to four student-athletes for a spot on the CSC Academic All-District® list. To be eligible individuals must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 in their academic career and compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games.
