Yellow Jackets Split Second Doubleheader Versus the Orediggers

GOLDEN, COLO.- Laci Peskey struck out the side in the seventh inning to hold on and end the six-game losing streak in game one before the Orediggers were able to beat the Yellow Jackets in game two to take the series versus BHSU. It is the second straight series loss for the Yellow Jackets, who now sit in sixth in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 3
•    BHSU started the scoring early in this one. In the bottom of the first, Tyler Whitlock was hit by a pitch and stole second. Desi Hernandez would then hit a double for her first RBI of the day to give BHSU a 1-0 lead. Ashlynn Pauwels singled and scored Hernandez, which gave BHSU a 2-0 lead. Pauwels got to third, but that's as far as she got as BHSU headed to the second up 2-0
•    In the second inning, BHSU led off with a double off the bat of Lily Simmons, Little Wong hit a sacrifice bunt to get her to third and Whitlock hit a single to score Simmons and make it 3-0. Carly Reyes Mims advanced Whitlock to second on a groundout, before Hernandez hit her second RBI and second double of the day to give BHSU a 4-0 lead. Pauwels would follow with a double of her own to make it 5-0 and Laci Peskey would hit her second single of the day to score Pauwels and make it 6-0 heading into the third inning.
•    In the bottom of the third inning, Lily Simmons led off with a single to get on base for a second time. She would advance to second and then to third with two groundouts. With two outs, Reyes Mims hit a single to score Simmons and give BHSU a massive 7-0 lead.
•    Once the fifth inning started, Colorado School of Mines offense found a rhythm. Lauren Romero doubled to lead off the fifth and Mia Lopez advanced her to third on a sac bunt. With two outs, Emiaj Self hit a double to score Romero, before Kendall Aragon hit a double to score Self. Cassidy Chvatal hit a single to score Aragon and CSM had cut the lead to 7-3.
•    In the top of the sixth, Hannah Roberts led off with a walk. She advanced to second on a groundout from Emily Rodgers and Romero tripled Roberts home and cut the lead to 7-4. Lopez singled in Romero to make it 7-5. Kellan Tom singled to get Lopez to second, advanced on a groundout, and scored on a two-RBI double from Kendall Aragon, who was 4-4 on the day. This tied the game at 7-7. In the bottom of the sixth, Allison Westbrook, who was rolling got Reyes Mims to pop out, before allowing a go-ahead solo home run to Hernandez, who was also 4-4 on the day and had three RBIs. 
•    Laci Peskey came back out for the seventh and struck out the side to secure the victory and end the Yellow Jackets six-game loss

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME 4
•     Self hit a one-out single to start this game and immediately made it home on a double from Chvatal, which gave CSM the early 1-0 lead.
•    BHSU answered back in the third inning when Reyes Mims hit the first home run of her career to tie it up at 1-1.
•    In the top of the fourth inning, Aragon led off with a single. She would steal second after two outs were achieved and scored on a Rodgers single to give the Orediggers a 2-1 lead. 
•    After no runs were scored in the fifth inning, Self led off the sixth inning with a single and with one out, Chvatal walked to put two on. Lexie Semeyn singled to load the bases and Rodgers hit a three-RBI single to give Colorado School of Mines the 5-1 lead. Malaya Coleman came in to relieve Paige Goodell and gave up an RBI single to Kailey Morales that scored Rodgers and gave CSM a 6-1 lead. 
•    In the top of the seventh with two outs, Coleman walked Chvatal and allowed a triple to Semeyn that grew the lead to 7-1. Simmons led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. She advanced to third on a Whitlock groundout and scored on Reyes Mims single. The Yellow Jackets were able to get a couple more baserunners, but were unable to score any more runs and fell 7-2 to CSM in game four of the series to lose their second series in a row.

UP NEXT
BHSU will play their fourth straight road series against the top team in the RMAC, Colorado Christian. They will be heading to Lakewood, Colorado to face a team that BHSU hasn't beat since 2015.
