SPEARFISH, S.D.- The Yellow Jackets finish round one of the Homestake invite in sixth place after shooting a 348 (+60). It was an incredibly windy day at Spearfish Canyon Golf Club, which caused a lot of high scores throughout the tournament, but Katie Jorgenson and Abbi Beld led the way for BHSU as they each shot a 84 (+12) on round one and putting us just ahead of Dickinson State and just behind Eastern Wyoming.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Abbi Beld co-led the way for the Yellow Jackets posting an 84 (+12) in round one today to put her in a tie for 14^th place in the tournament. Beld started the day with a par on hole five before making three pars in the first seven holes. She would make a birdie on the par five 12^th hole before shooting a 41 (+5) on the back nine. She only had one hole over a bogey today.
• Katie Jorgenson shot a season best 84 (+12) to tie for the Yellow Jacket lead today. She also sits in a tie for 14^th with Beld. Jorgenson parred hole four to begin her round before going +5 on the next three holes, she bounced back by only going +5 on the next 11 holes and then ending with two straight pars on holes two and three. She also had a birdie on hole 14, a difficult par four.
• Shelbi Gardner was third on the team with an 88 (+16). Gardner sits in 27^th place after shooting 44 (+8) on each nine. She had three pars in her first seven holes and then shot +1 with a birdie and two pars on her final five holes. She birdied hole the par five 18^th hole.
• Makaela Swanson sits in fourth on the team and in a tie for 36^th in the tournament after shooting a 92 (+20) today. After going +5 in her first three holes, she would settle down and only go +4 on her next ten to shoot a 42 (+6) on the front nine. Besides only a couple of rough holes, Swanson had a solid day on the course and made seven pars.
• Savanah Peterson made her BHSU debut as an individual today and posted a score of 95 (+23). Peterson shot a very good 45 (+9) on the back nine and parred her second hole of her career on a really tough hole number three. Peterson finished fifth on the Jackets today and sits in 41^st place.
• Leyni Stavola sits in 49^th place today after a 104 (+32) round today. Stavola was able to make a par on hole ten today and sits in sixth on the Yellow Jackets. She had six solid bogeys on a really hard and windy day at SCGC.
