Hurdle Eclipses 1,000 Career Points and Seale Posts Career-Highs in No. 19 Yellow Jackets’ Road Victory at Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. – The No. 19 Black Hills State University men's basketball team secured the season sweep of the Eagles and snapped a 3-game losing streak in the Chicoine Center on Tuesday night as they defeated Chadron State 77-59 behind a pair of milestone performances. The Yellow Jackets were spearheaded by a career-best 16-point, four 3-point field goal, and 7-rebound performance by Jackson Seale, as he sank three of his shots from beyond the arc in the second half to help create a 19-point differential late in the game. Also helping lead way for the Green & Gold was Tristan Hurdle, who eclipsed 1,000 career points with his first of two 3-pointers on the night. BHSU's win in the Chicoine Center marked the first on the Eagles' home court since a 97-74 win on January 31, 2020, and the first season sweep of Chadron State by both the men's and women's teams since 2019-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chadron State began the game with a right-corner 3-pointer from Isaiah Randolph off an assist from Luka Djurovic on their first possession just 28 seconds into the game, however, Black Hills State answered with an 11-2 scoring run to take the lead for good in the contest. The Yellow Jackets scored their first points of the match-up with a second chance basket from Jack Haggett as he knocked down a turnaround jumper in the paint with 18:09 on the clock. It was Jackson Seale's first 3-pointer of the game that gave the Green & Gold the lead just 30 seconds later as he sank a right-corner triple off a pass from Jaeton Hackley. The scoring run was capped by a turnaround jumper in the paint by BJ Woodruff as he backed down his defender to get to the basket and make it an 11-5 game with 13:05 left in the opening half.
  • The Eagles remained within striking distance the remainder of the first half as the lead never grew to more than six in the opening half for the Yellow Jackets, and CSC would eventually trim the lead to as low as a single point with 6:43 to play as Randolph connected on his second 3-pointer of the half, this time from the left-corner off a pass from Jadon Cool to make it 17-16.
  • The Green & Gold pushed the lead back to six points on five more occasions in the first half as the teams went back-and-forth, first however, with 5:08 on the clock as Tristan Hurdle hit a shot from the right-wing off a pass from Haggett for his 1,000th career point of his collegiate career, making it a 22-16 game. Then with just 44 seconds to play till the halftime break, Haggett quickly reversed the ball over to the left-wing to an open Blake Volmer for the third 3-pointer of the half for the Yellow Jackets, making it a 31-25 game after 20 minutes of action.
  • The Eagles scored the first points of the second half with a right-corner 3-pointer from Blessing Adesipe off a kick-out pass from Randolph just 36 seconds in to make 31-28. Then after two possessions of trading baskets and a minute and a half of scoreless action, the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-3 scoring run to push the lead to double digits as Seale sank his second shot from beyond the arc as Cam Lowe found him at the top of the key on a kick-out pass to make it 44-34 with 15:07 left to play in the game. CSC then responded out of a timeout with five straight points of their own, but a 7-0 run with back-to-back Myles Johnson layups off Volmer assists and a left-wing 3-pointer from Hurdle off a pass from Johnson in just over a minute time span extended the lead to 12 points (51-39) with 11:02 to play.
  • Chadron State cut the Black Hills State lead to nine points four times between the ten and five minute marks, however, the Yellow Jackets pushed the game out of reach for good with a 10-0 scoring run over a nearly four minute stretch in the closing minutes. The run was sparked by a right-handed layup by Haggett as Seale fired a pass inside to him from the left-wing with 5:20 to play in the game. The run of ten unanswered points was then capped by Lowe as he hit a pull up 3-point jumper from the logo as the shot clock wound down, making it a 73-54 contest with just 1:29 remaining in the game. The scoring in the match-up came to a close with 19 seconds to play as Haggett hit a pair of free throws to make it a 77-59 game as the Yellow Jackets finished the game on a 14-5 scoring run.
