Yellow Jackets Take Down Rangers in Three Sets

SPEARFISH, S.D.- Black Hills State got off the block fast in this one as they were able to cruise to an easy three set victory over the Regis Rangers to grab their fourth conference win of the season. BHSU took the first and second sets in quick fashion before pulling off a come-from-behind victory in the third set to take the match. BHSU got a lot of help from Elena Atkinson at the service line and Carsyn Mettler's swing was on fire in this one as BHSU hit over .300 in this game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Regis took an early 3-1 lead before an Alannah Kemmis ace and a kill by Mettler got BHSU up 4-3. A 6-2 run by Regis gave them the 8-6 lead before two kills from Zoie Husman and two aces from Atkinson gave the Yellow Jackets a 6-1 run to make it 12-9. Regis won three in a row to tie it at 12. BHSU then won five of the next eight with kills by Peyton McLeod and Izzy Saiki to go up 17-15. Regis tied it at 17 before the Green and Gold went on a 5-1 run with a kill and a block from Husman and another ace from Atkinson to go up 22-18. Regis then took four more to make it 24-22 before a Mettler kill ended the set at 25-22.
  • Elena Atkinson had three aces in the first four points and Saiki and Mettler each had two kills to go on a 9-2 run to start the second set. Two blocks and a service error helped Regis win three of the four to close the gap to 10-5. Saiki had two aces, Atkinson had another and four Jackets each had a kill in a 9-3 run to make it 19-8. Sabrina Landman had two kills in a row for RU before BHSU went on a 6-1 run with two kills from Saiki to take the 25-11 win and go up 2-0 in the match.
  • The third set started insanely close with nine ties in the first 20 points as the game remained tied at 10-10. An 8-1 run by Regis opened up a 17-11 lead. A 9-2 run with two kills from McLeod, Husman, and Mettler plus a block by McLeod helped BHSU take a 20-19 lead. McLeod had another block and kill in a 5-3 run to take the set 25-22 and match 3-0.
