Yellow Jackets Drop Both of Sunday’s Games to ThunderWolves

PUEBLO, Colo.- The Yellow Jackets were not able to pull out a series win or split as the Yellow Jackets fell in both games Sunday afternoon en route to going 1-3 in the series versus Pueblo. The Yellow Jackets tried to come back and take down the ThunderWolves in game four, but a late rally in the seventh was not enough to get a series split as they fell 3-2 in game two today. It is the first series loss to Pueblo in three years as BHSU had won each of the last two series 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
  • The first two batters reached for BHSU in the top of the first with Carly Reyes Mims singling and Alyssa Wong reaching on an error. They both moved up a base with a passed ball and Sammie Kaufman-Warner hit a single to score them both and get BHSU a 2-0 lead with one out. That was all they got heading into the bottom of the second. In the bottom, Caitlyn Cole started causing havoc early with a single and then advancing to third on an infield bunt single by Gissel Morales Cermeno. Cermeno stole second and Cole stole home on a double steal to make it 2-1.  A double by McKenna James scored another run to tie the game and she stole second before Reese Reimler singled to score her and make it 3-2. Despite Reimler making it to third with no outs, Dakota Poag got out of it and kept it at 3-2.
  • Audrey Fouras started the second inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Anna Gietzen. Lily Simmons hit a single up the middle to score Foruas and tie the game at 3-3 heading into the bottom half. Lydia Tibbals walked on a 3-2 count with one out and advanced to second on another single by Caitlyn Cole. Morales Cermeno singled to score Tibbals and the two runners got another double steal to reach second and third. James grounded out, but it still scored Cole to make it 5-3. Poag got out of it once again to keep it at a two-run lead.
  • No one would score in the third ending the streak of four half-innings with runs scored and in the bottom of the fourth, CSU Pueblo broke it open. Morales Cermeno would single and advance to second on a sac bunt and then steal third. Reimler would single to score her and then steal second. Emma Case walked and Darleen Falcon doubled to score Reimler and advance the pinch runner from first to third. Cali Cole grounded out to score Marissa Reza and Huerta would single to score Falcon giving CSUP a 9-3 lead. After a walk, Geschwill would reenter the game and replace Poag and pitch the last two innings scoreless and BHSU would also not score ending the game at 9-3.
