SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Black Hills State University men's basketball team moved up one spot in National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Top-25 Rankings on Tuesday, moving to No. 13 in the national poll. The Yellow Jackets ran their win streak to seven games this past weekend, defeating Westminster (80-58) and Colorado Mesa (74-65) to secure the RMAC men's basketball regular season championship outright for the second time in the last five seasons. Also with the wins, the Green & Gold improved to 10-1 on their home court this season.
The Yellow Jackets remain among the top statistically in the nation in several different categories, including ranking first in NCAA Division II in defensive rebounds per game (29.54), is seventh in effective field goal percentage (57.8%), is eighth in assist/turnover ratio (1.53), is ninth in assists per game (18.1), is 11
th in 3-pointers per game (10.5), is 12
th in 3-point percentage (38.8%), is 15
th in scoring margin (+14.0), is 18
th in field goal percentage (49.4%), is 20
th in rebound margin (+6.7), and is 22
nd in free throw percentage (76.6%).
The Yellow Jackets are the lone team in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) to be ranked or receiving votes and are one of six ranked or receiving votes in the South Central Region as Lone Star Conference foes Lubbock Christian is No. 8, Eastern New Mexico is No. 11, Dallas Baptist is No. 20, and both Western New Mexico and St. Edward's are receiving votes.
Black Hills State begins their postseason with an RMAC Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal game on Tuesday, March 3, as they host UCCS at 7 p.m. in A2 Arena. The game will be streamed live on the RMAC Network and will be available on KDSJ Radio.
