HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 3
- After no runs scored in the first inning, BHSU came out in the second inning and Audrey Fouras walked. Alyssa Wong reached on a fielder's choice that got Fouars to second safely and with one out, both runners advanced on a throwing error after a fly out. That didn't matter though, because Carly Reyes Mims broke BHSU's single-season team home run record with the team's 39th home run of the year, which gave BHSU a 3-0 lead early. Despite two more runners reaching base, that was the last run BHSU got that inning.
- After a 1-2-3 bottom of the second, Fouras walked again with one out in the top of the third. Wong doubled to move her to third, and a strike out, Lily Simmons singled up the middle to score both runners and make it 5-0 BHSU.
- No runs scored in the fourth inning and despite three base runners, no BHSU runner was able to score in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gianna Pancost walked, Katie Steinmetz singled to move her to third, and McCombs also walked with still only one out. Mackenzie Scott came up and hit a grand slam to make this a game at 5-4. Paige Goodell took over for Kaitlyn Geschwill, and despite walking her first two batters, she got out of it unscathed and kept BHSU in the lead.
- BHSU had another runner in scoring position in the sixth, but couldn't get her in, and despite UCCS loading the bases in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, Goodell got a groundout to get it to the seventh with BHSU still up 5-4.
- UCCS came back up in the bottom of the seventh still down 5-4, before a red hot Laynee Case hit a leadoff solo home run to tie it at 5-5. Geschwill reentered the game to pitch to Brooke Bornitz, who made it back-to-back home runs with a walk-off solo shot to give UCCS the 6-5 win.
