BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The Yellow Jackets were unable to make up any ground on day two after sitting in ninth after a solid 328 (+40) after day one. The Yellow Jackets shot a few shots worse on a windy round in day two with the team score reaching 337 (+49) to put their total score at 665 (+89) over the first two days of the tournament. The Yellow Jackets were able to see some low scores early in the round, but a rough end to the front nine hurt their total score.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Abbi Beld remains in the lead for BHSU as she is now tied with Leyni Stavola for the top of the team sitting at a 164 (+20) and in a tie for 40th place in the tournament. Beld shot 80 (+8) yesterday and followed that with a 84 (+12) today. Beld was only +3 through her first nine holes, but a rough two holes towards the back end of the front nine, dropped her down. She ended up finishing +3 in her last six holes including two pars to end her day. Beld shot a 40 (+4) on the back nine and had 10 pars on the day.
- Leyni Stavola responded from her second best round of the season of an 81 (+9) yesterday by shooting an 83 (+11) today. Stavola currently is tied with Beld at 164 (+20) and is in a tie for 40th as well. Stavola had an incredible start to her day. She made a birdie on hole 18 to begin her round, which was the same hole she doubled to end her round yesterday. Stavola continued her strong campaign by making four pars in the next five holes to sit at even for the day through six holes. Stavola made an unfortunate triple bogey on six, but immediately made a birdie after. She would finish going +9 on the last 11 holes. She finished the day with eight pars and two birdies.
- Makaela Swanson jumped into the top three of BHSU's team today after an 86 (+12) yesterday and shooting a team leading 82 (+10) today. She shot the low for BHSU, which put her at a 36-hole score of 168 (+24) and in 47th place. After bogeying the first two holes of the day, Swanson caught on fire when she got to hole one. She made seven pars out of the nine holes on the front side and then went +3 on the final six holes with a massive birdie on hole 12 to shoot her score where she shot a 41 (+5) on each nine. She ended up with ten pars and a birdie.
- Shelbi Gardner was next on the team sitting at a 170 (+26) and in a tie for 48th after putting up an unfortunate 88 (+16) today. Gardner, who shot an 82 (+10) yesterday got off to a rough start going +6 on the first two holes. She bounced back in a big way after that only going +10 on the final 16 holes with seven pars.
- Olivia McCandless comes in next after shooting a 90 (+18) today after an 85 (+13) yesterday to put her at a 175 (+31) in a tie for 52nd going into the final day. McCandless never really got going after going +7 in the first five holes before finishing her day with five pars in the final 13 holes. After getting past hole six, a nemesis for BHSU today, she didn't make worse than a bogey on the final nine holes.
- Katie Jorgenson rounded out BHSU's roster, posting a 93 (+21) after posting an 89 (+17) yesterday. Jorgenson currently sits in 56th place with a 36-hole score of 182 (+38). Jorgenson started off her day only +1 through five holes after making a birdie on the par 3 17th to begin her day. A rough stretch of holes from hole 4 to hole 13 hurt her round, but she made some of it back by ending her day even par on the final three holes with a birdie on hole number 15, which was her second to last hole.
