Yellow Jackets Break 45-Hole Program Record to Finish Ninth at RMAC Championships

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Due to the round being suspended due to excessive wind, the RMAC Championship final totals only took each teams first 45 holes for the final score. This puts the Yellow Jackets final total at 831 (+111) for the 45-hole total. BHSU ended up finishing ninth this year in the tournament, which is the same place they finished last year, but the Yellow Jackets did make up a lot of strokes on the field over the course of the past year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Abbi Beld finished tied for the BHSU lead with a 204 (+24) after shooting a 85 (+13) over the 18 holes, but with only the front nine counting, she shot a 40 (+4) here today to sit in 37th place. Beld, who shot 80 (+8) in round one and 84 (+12) finished her freshman year great. She started the day very strong making eight pars in the first 12 holes and shooting a 40 (+4) on the front nine. She had a bit of a tough stretch from holes 13-16, before making par on 17.
  • Leyni Stavola was unable to stay atop the team lead as she dropped to second today with a 45-hole score of 208 (+28) with a 44 (+8) today and an 18-hole score (that doesn't count) of 89 (+17). Still, after shooting an 81 (+9), and an 83 (+11) in the first two rounds, Stavola sits in 43rd place. She put up five pars today and started her round +6 through seven.
  • Shelbi Gardner, another freshman, who's had a great season, put up a team-low 79 (+7) today, but shot a 40 (+4) on the front nine. It was also the low 18-hole score for the tournament for BHSU. This put in third on the team with a 210 (+30) and also in a tie for 45th. Gardner had a beautiful 40 (+4) on the front nine with six pars and then made another six pars, with only three bogeys, on the back nine to shoot 39 (+3). She ended up with 12 pars on the day.
  • Makaela Swanson came in next staying in fourth with a 45-hole score of 211 (+31) with a 43 (+7) today and an 18-hole score of 84 (+12) today to move into 47th place. This comes after shooting an 86 (+14) in round one and an 82 (+10) in round two. She started her day +4 through two holes, but made a birdie on three and made three pars in the last six holes on the front nine to shoot a 43 (+7). She then posted a 41 (+5) on the back nine with four pars and no holes worse than bogey. She finished with seven pars and a birdie.
  • Olivia McCandless put up a fantastic round today to end her career as she shot a 45-hole score of 218 (+38) over the three-day tournament and currently sits in a tie for 52nd place. McCandless put up a great 43 (+7) with a solid 18-hole score of 84 (+12) today with five pars and a birdie on her final hole of her college golf career. She only had one hole worse than bogey all day and shot a 41 (+5) on the back nine.
  • Katie Jorgenson rounded out BHSU's roster, posting a 226 (+46) over 45 holes to sit in 56th place. Today, she posted her best round of the tournament with an 87 (+15) on the final 18 holes of her career. The 44 (+8) that she shot on the front nine was what counted today. She posted seven pars today and had only three holes worse than bogey. She posted a 43 (+7) on the back nine.
