RAPID CITY, S.D. - The Black Hills State University women's soccer team traveled down I-90 to Rapid City on Saturday morning for a neutral site match-up with Minnesota Crookston, battling to a 0-0 draw at the Black Hills Surgical Sports Complex. While both teams' offensive attacks provided opportunities, each goalkeeper did their job as Rian Barthel picked up her first shutout of the season and the duo of Phoenix DeBrusk and Payton King provided the second consecutive shutout for the Golden Eagles to begin the 2026 campaign. Despite the strong play by the keepers, BHSU looked to steal the win late in the match with a corner kick set; however, a header from Ally Boysen ricocheted off the top woodwork with less than three minutes to play and left the game scoreless.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both starting goalkeepers were active early in the match, as Rian Barthel made a pair of saves off shot attempts by Tessa VanOverbeke in the first four minutes and Ally Boysen fired a shot on target in the 4th minute that was saved by Phoenix DeBruske.
- It then wouldn't be until the 32nd minute that a shot fell on target for either squad, with Black Hills State adding another pair by Sydney Stephan in the 32nd and 44th minute. The Yellow Jacket defense held the Golden Eagles without a shot on frame the final 41 minutes of the first half.
- In the first 45 minutes of action BHSU held a 9-3 overall advantage in shot attempts, however, it was UMC who held the 3-2 edge in shots on target.
- The offensive attack again picked up in the opening minutes of the second half as each team posted a pair of shots on target. Barthel tallied a pair of saves for the Green & Gold as she stopped shot attempts from VanOverbeke in the 50th minute and Andrea Cuenca Medina in the 56th minute. The Golden Eagles made a change in goal following the halftime break, bringing in Payton King who stopped shots on frame from Boysen in the 51st minute and Ivy Agee in the 54th minute.
- The final shot on target of the contest for the Yellow Jackets came off the foot of Agee in the 67th minute, however it would be stopped once again by King for her third and final save of the match. Then minutes later in the 70th minute, Black Hills State would receive the first corner kick attempt of the game and the first of the season for the Green & Gold.
- Barthel would make her fifth and final save of the contest in the 78th minute, stopping the low shot attempt towards the center of the net by Jillian Muehlberger.
- Boysen came within inches of giving the Yellow Jackets the lead in the 88th minute as off the corner kick set she was able to head the ball towards an opening on the back post, however, the ball ricocheted off the top of the woodwork and back into play.
- Black Hills State held the advantage in shot attempts (19-7), shots-on-goal (6-5), and corner kicks (4-0), while Minnesota Crookston held the edge on saves (6-5).
