SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University women's soccer program will play a pair of neutral site matches on Thursday, September 3, and Saturday, September 5, as part of the Rimrock Classic hosted by Montana State Billings. The Yellow Jackets, who will face their third and fourth opponents from the NSIC respectively, will face UMary and MSU Moorhead at the Yellowjacket Soccer Field. The Green & Gold look to build off a 1-0-1 opening weekend, as BHSU looks to continue the early momentum built by the offensive attack this season.

BLACK HILLS STATE STORYLINES 

• Black Hills State enters the weekend with a 1-0-1 record following a 3-1 victory over Sioux Falls and a 0-0 draw with Minnesota Crookston in Rapid City. 
• After playing to a draw in each of the previous two season openers, the Yellow Jackets secured just their second-ever season opening victory in the match against the Cougars, with the only other occurring in 2023 against Dakota Wesleyan in head coach John Hutchison's first game with the Green & Gold. 
• Through two games this season, BHSU holds a 34-16 shots advantage and a 13-8 shots on goal advantage, holding the edge in each match against USF and UMC. 
• Defensively since the start of the 2025 season, the Yellow Jackets have posted six shutouts and held opponents to one goal or less in 14 matches. 
• Against The Coo, Ivy Agee scored her first career goal to start the scoring for the season, becoming the fourth freshman in program history to score the opening goal of the season for the Green & Gold. She joins Katie Nielson (2016), Jayden Judy (2017), and Emma Avery (2021). 
• The Yellow Jackets have tallied ten points on the season thus far, all occurring in the season opener and tied for the ninth-most in a single match in program history. Along with Agee's one goal, Ally Boysen and Zoe Evans each also found the back of the net once. Kylea Becker tallied a pair of assists and Ashley Measles and Bailey Smith each notched one. 
• On the back line of defense, Daniela Rodriguez, Evans, and Measles lead the team with 165, 161, and 160 minutes played respectively thus far. 
• Rian Barthel started and played the complete 90 minutes of each of the first two matches of the year, which has seen her make seven saves and allow just one goal. She posts a 0.50 goals against average and a 0.875 save percentage. The shutout against UMC on Saturday marked her fifth career complete game shutout, just one shy of matching the school's career record. 
• Hutchison enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Black Hills State program, guiding the Yellow Jackets to an 11-32-12 mark during his tenure. Overall, in his collegiate coaching career he enters year eight with a career record of 22-75-20 after four prior seasons at Presentation. 

UMARY STORYLINES 

• UMary enters the match-up with a 0-0-1 record following a season opening draw against Western Oregon (1-1) this past season. 
• The Marauders are coming off of an 8-7-4 (6-5-4 NSIC) season in 2025, their sixth consecutive winning season (excluding a shortened 2020 spring season). 
• UMary finished 2025 tied for seventh in the NSIC standings and enter the 2026 season projected to finish sixth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
• The Marauders offensive player to watch in the NSIC, Dina Polanco, who scored nine goals a year ago, scored the lone goal of the match to begin the season against WOU and was assisted by Maggie Bono. 
• Chloe Brand, the Marauders defensive player to watch in the NSIC, played 59 minutes against the Wolves last Thursday, while the rest of the back line saw Matilda Walker play 85 minutes and Bella Kozlowski play 76 minutes. 
• Kadyn Dilger, who started and appeared in 17 matches in 2025, made just two saves against only three shots on target from Western Oregon. A year ago, she posted eight shutouts while allowing a 1.00 goals against average and making a 0.712 save percentage. 
• Sarah Cook is in her 15th season as the head coach at UMary, guiding the Marauders to a 108-98-40 career record and eight winning seasons.

• Thursday marks the eighth all-time meeting on the soccer pitch between Black Hills State and UMary, as the Marauders hold the lead in the series 7-0.

• MSU Moorhead enters the weekend with a 1-0-0 record following a 1-0 win on the road over Minnesota Crookston in the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock Game on Monday, which saw the Dragons win despite the Golden Eagles holding a 12-5 advantage in shots and a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. 
• In 2025, the Dragons went 3-14-1 (2-13-0 NSIC) for a tie for 14th place in the NSIC standings. Entering the 2026 campaign, they have been picked 16th in the NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll. 
• Mary Cox, who was the Dragons offensive player to watch in the NSIC, assisted on the lone and game-winning goal against UMC on Monday as Erika Bergh found the back of the net in the 11th minute. Cox played the full 90 minutes in the match. 
• Defensively, Lizzy Jaraczeski was MSUM's defensive player to watch in the NSIC and was one of two players to play the full 90 minutes on the back line alongside Lilly Allen. 
• Emilia Bukholt Kristensen made her first career start for the Dragons in goal on Monday, posting a complete game shutout and making seven saves in her debut. 
• Scott Forster is in his third season as the head coach at MSU Moorhead and holds a record of 5-28-4 during his tenure with the Dragons. As a collegiate head coach, he enters year number six with a career record of 19-57-8 following three seasons at Bluefield State.
