Mike Gibbs joined the Yellow Jacket men’s basketball program as assistant coach in September of 2020.

Prior to BHSU, Gibbs spent nearly 20 years as a high school coach in Colorado. Most recently, Gibbs led Highlands Ranch High School to the 5A state playoffs in each of his five seasons at the helm. In 2019, the Falcons advanced to the Sweet 16 after defeating the Continental League Champs, Regis Jesuit.

Before Highlands Ranch, Gibbs spent six seasons reviving the Ponderosa High School boys basketball program. The Mustangs won more games in Gibbs’ six years than they did in the previous ten. Ponderosa was ranked in the top 20 in four of those six seasons. In total, Gibbs has developed over 15 student-athletes that went on to play collegiate basketball including five in the RMAC and two in the Mountain West Conference (NCAA D1).

As an athlete, Gibbs was a four-year starter at Santa Monica Community College and Humboldt State University. He helped Santa Monica CC win consecutive conference championships while compiling a 44-10 record. At Humboldt State, Gibbs finished his career ranked fifth in the conference in rebounding. He graduated from Humboldt State with a degree in Business Administration.

Gibbs also owns his own insurance and financial services company. He and his wife Krysta have three children, Madeline, Raeana, and Bryon.
