Rapid City, S.D. – The Black Hills State University volleyball team dropped two matches to Sioux Falls and S.D. Mines by scores of 3-2 and 4-1 respectively in the S.D. Mines and Technology Tournament, Saturday in Rapid City, S.D.
"We have to get more ball control from our back row," said head coach Sally Nichols. "We need to limit our errors, we continued to fight and scrap but it is was not enough with the amount of unforced errors we committed."
Black Hills State fell to Sioux Falls in the first set 19-25, came back to defeat the Cougars in the second and third sets by scores of 25-22 and 26-24 but fell in the final two sets 19-25 and 15-17. The Yellow Jackets were led by senior Caitlin Templeton who finished the match with 16 kills and hit .387.
The Yellow Jackets then squared off against rival S.D. Mines and fell by a score of 3-1. Black Hills State hit .087 as a team and was once again led by Templeton who hit .481. The Yellow Jackets committed eight service errors and six receiving errors.
Black Hills State will return to action Friday, October 7 as they take on Arizona Christian as part of the Johnson and Wales Tournament held at Johnson and Wales University in Denver, Colo. opening serve is slated for 2:30 p.m. MT.
