BHSU Beats Hardrockers for 3rd-Straight Win

Spearfish, S.D. - The Black Hills State volleyball team had a statement win against in-state rival South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on Tuesday night in front of a packed Donald E. Young Center crowd. 

The Yellow Jackets started off slow in the first set, but built momentum to take the set 25-23. The Hardrockers showed resilience with a commanding set two victory, 17-25. The Jackets returned to the floor refocused and won the third set 25-20. The Jackets fed off their momentum from set three to win set four and secure the victory (25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 25-10).

The Yellow Jackets are now riding a three-game win streak, the longest of the season.

Amy O'Neill led the Yellow Jackets with a team-high 18 kills and Caitlin Templeton added 15. O'Neill also added five service aces. Holly Hamlin was a catalyst on the defense side with two solo blocks and four assisted blocks. Kylee Lamb also had an outstanding defensive performance with two solo blocks and three assisted blocks.

Kyla Johnson played a crucial role off the bench with consistent serving and three service aces.

Kelsey Olson had a team-high 24 digs and Darbi Yost spread the ball around for 47 assists.

Justine Blade and Janelle Strampe led the efforts for the Hardrockers with 12 kills each.

The Yellow Jackets now hit the road to take on Colorado Christian (Oct. 26), Colorado Mines (Oct.27), and Chadron State (Oct. 30).
